Biography

Norman Brown is the US born smooth jazz guitarist whose success has seen him dubbed 'the second coming of George Benson'.

Brown's young life was spent in Kansas, where early exposure to Hendrix convinced him he wanted to be an axeman. He was turned on to jazz by his father and after graduation he moved to the West Coast to study at Musicians Institute in LA. Gigging on the LA jazz scene eventually… Read more in Amazon's Norman Brown Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Norman Brown shows supberb guitar work; a very good album!, March 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Just Between Us (Audio CD)
"Just Between Us" is a great album mostly due to the brilliant guitar work of Brown. Brown gets off to a good start on this, his debut album, and only gets better as time goes on. "After the Storm" and "Better Days Ahead" show this (if you're wondering, "Better Days Ahead" is my favorite). Tracks like "Stormin'", "Just Between Us," and "East Meets West" shine brilliantly. I can't wait until his next release.

4.0 out of 5 stars R&B Guitar Gem, May 3, 2000
This review is from: Just Between Us (Audio CD)
I discovered Norman Brown when I went to one of his live shows on a whim in January of 1999. His playing and energy really blew me away and I've added his entire catalog to my collection since then. Just Between Us is the release that most nearly captures that energy, especially in the first track. You can't sit still while listening to it, and the licks are to die for. The laid back tracks are wonderful too. It seems with each successive release some of the edge comes off, which is good or bad depending on your taste. I find Celebration the least desirable of his CDs, although still listenable - I think it tries a little too hard to fall into the 'smooth jazz' category.

Being a jazz freak, i keep a overwhelming collection of jazz CDs. In my archive, i have closely gaurded Norman Brown's album and place them under lock and key!! Norman Brown is one of the greatest jazz artist of all time. By my reckoning, he is a living icon. he sings my kind of jazz - smooth, well orchestrated, and alloyed with R&B touch. Of particular mention, is "Just between us", "After the Storm" and "Celebration".These CDs are one of his greatest works. His use of those fingers on the guitar fascinates me. Keep the flag flying, Norman!!
