4.0 out of 5 stars Thought-Provoking Book
I am in graduate school and was assigned to read this book. Happily, I found this book is filled with scripture to back up the author's statements/theories. 1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Who doesn't want to agree with a writer about ethics in the business world. However for an author writing about ethics he seems to be failing to use an ethical approach to quoting the bible. When an author quotes Jesus I go to the source and within context a good majority of the verses he uses do no support his argument. Examples seem to miss the mark as with co-op...

4.0 out of 5 stars Thought-Provoking Book, February 24, 2008
This review is from: Just Business: Christian Ethics for the Marketplace (Paperback)
I am in graduate school and was assigned to read this book. Happily, I found this book is filled with scripture to back up the author's statements/theories. The mock mini-cases and/or illustrations that were provided in the book were extremely helpful in identifying possible business scenarios that one might encounter and ways to deal with them. The ways suggested to deal with the mock scenarios are always scripture-based and require thought and conviction from the reader.

I really liked the book and recommend it to others.

There is one more thing. This could be viewed as either a positive or a negative. I had to be close to www.dictionary.com because there were numerous words that were unfamiliar. If anyone is like me, if I do not look up the meaning of an unfamiliar word, I risk losing complete understanding of that passage/sentence. Once I looked up word definitions, I comprehended and enjoyed the reading. I must be honest and say that I expected an "easy read" (not having to look up definitions), but it wasn't that bad because (at least) I expanded my vocabulary on top of learning about business, Christian ethics (LOL)!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, October 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Who doesn't want to agree with a writer about ethics in the business world. However for an author writing about ethics he seems to be failing to use an ethical approach to quoting the bible. When an author quotes Jesus I go to the source and within context a good majority of the verses he uses do no support his argument. Examples seem to miss the mark as with co-op America which is not asking people not to buy anything but providing environmentally sustainable alternatives. It's hard to agree with his arguments (even though I would hold to most of them anyways) when his proofs fail to meet the mark. I guess he's hoping most people won't get out their bible. If i didn't have to keep reading for school I would have stopped after the first chapter.

1.0 out of 5 stars i would not recommend you to read this book, February 13, 2003
This review is from: Just Business: Christian Ethics for the Marketplace (Paperback)
I was assigned to read this book for social religion class. I did not find it very interesting to read. most of the stories are business stereotype. The book itself is very confusing. It seems that it keeps repeating itself- over and over.
