I just finished Ms. Cannon's latest and what a wonderful book. Since I was a bit disappointed in her last one (just didn't really have a plot going for it and characters were a bit 2 dimensional), I was reluctant to get her latest, but I am very glad I did. In this newest one, Ms. Cannon brought the two main characters to life; each having sub-characters that only made the main ones more robust. There just seem to be more to the characters stories this time with more depth to the characters and more substance to the story plot...I look forward to her next one.

Eh, not the greatest, not plausible, but entertaining hot sex,
By Crimson/Silver (Land of Enchantment) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Just Business (Paperback)
HONESTLY, what drew my inital attention to this book was the cover art. I read the reviews that were available, and in the end, I resolved, I bought the book because of the cover art. Art is just for "eye-candy" sakes. The lead characters, or none of the characters in the book for that matter, DO NOT look like the cover art.
Bait and switch, yep, I fell for it. I know I know, it's a work of fiction. However much of a work of fiction anything should be, it should be at the very least..a thread that hinge on "believable", which, this story lacks. Think "Pretty Woman" with a lesbo twist. Throw into the mix is a subplot of a brother-unfairly-convicted-of-a-crime (he did murder someone by the way), so our heroine had-to-sacrifice-being-with-a-mega-gazillionaire and living a few privileged months for the sake of her brother. The plot was just stupid. I feel stupid for falling for the cover art. But, if you like reading hot, steamy, sporty, enthusiastic lesbian sex, you'll enjoy the plethora of encounters in this book. Very entertaining and descriptive. Me, I would rather of spent the money on a traditional porn flick!

I like Julie Cannon's books. She always presents beautiful and interesting characters with engaging storylines. `Just Business' is no exception.
Unexpectedly thrown into an awkward situation, Dillon Matthews goes with the flow and ends up with a broken heart. Dillon meets a depressed Callie Sheffield at a local bar one night and they feel a connection. Later, Dillon is invited to have dinner with Bill Franklin, a man who is holding out on a land deal she wants to close, and his wife Phyllis. She is specifically asked to bring a date and decides to invite Callie. Thinking the meal will be all that's required, Dillon is stunned when she and Callie are invited to spend a weekend with Bill and Phyllis at their beach cottage. Things only get more complicated from there as Dillon gets more deeply mired in the whole situation. She hasn't been completely honest with Callie and won't admit she's fallen in love with the unsuspecting woman - that is, until it's too late. Callie discovers Dillon's ruse and that's where the fun really begins. Okay, these characters aren't terribly multi-dimensional. Dillon's only focus is the land. Callie's only focus is getting her brother out of prison. Bill and Phyllis seen to open their arms too quickly to these women. However, their interactions make this book enjoyable. It's not as good as Cannon's earlier books, but I'm still glad I read it. Bottom Line - Well worth reading.

Cover girls led me on,

The femmes on the cover were the enticement for me, but were not descriptive of the characters (boooo). Though I would consider Callie as femme. I liked the story idea of getting married for reasons other than love, and later ending up in love. Though, Callie did have feelings for Dillon when she went into the arrangement. The sex scenes were good and plenty. The soft butch character of Dillon was so-so. I did like Callie the best. Some of the story I had to suspend reality. I had a BIG problem with Callie's brother going to prison for what he did. Home invasion, protecting a loved one, and you're going to prison? The police detective, prosecutor and Jury must have been relatives of the perp. Author could have worked out another reason Callie needed money if she has put the effort into it, maybe the brother needing a lifesaving surgery. For some reason a self made woman like Dillon trying to win Daddy's admiration didn't work for me. Why would you want to win a number one horse's rump's approval? No glaring mistakes in editing and writing was tight. If you can suspend reality on the things I mentioned, then this isn't a bad book to spend a little time with.

So what it's unbelievable. It was a pleasure to read. No doubt I'll read it again some time in the future.

Taking Care of Business,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Just Business (Paperback)
The author of Just Business certainly took care of business. She "fleshed" out both characters thoroughly and made them interesting and sexy. I liked the fact that Dillon and Callie were mature women both with interesting separate lives, which the author brought to light without taking away from their budding relationship. And the turn-about in the middle of the book gave the plot a shot in the arm to keep it exciting. And let's not forget- there was a good dose of intimacy. I like when a book gives the reader some "spice" before the last page (makes for a better page turner). For me, it was definitely worth the read!
