Product Description

In 1868, Wilsonville was a farming community located east of a tributary of the Greater Miami River in Western Ohio. Most of the surrounding countryside was nothing more than a patchwork of small homesteads; the folks there worked long hours to produce enough food for their families.

Steam locomotives had to refill their boilers and bring on firewood. As a result, a town soon grew around each of these stops. The small town of Wilsonville sprang up almost overnight when the Railroad built a station and a water tower there.

The Midwest was becoming civilized, with doctors, store clerks, teachers and all the other small town professionals. Gone were the Indians and Pioneers. The railroad had brought a new era of law and order to what was once a wild and lawless land.

Farther to the west, the country retained more of its raw and untamed state. The Railroad's steady advance through the heartland was forcing progress into its midst.

However, a few rugged men still lived by their own set of rules, governed not by Eastern laws but by their savage surroundings. Death was their constant companion.

Their end could come at any moment, caused by the slightest mistake or hesitation to act. This is the story of one such individual.

Honestly I read this because it was offered as a free download, it had a catchy title I liked the coverart and the synopsis was somewhat appealing. What I must call out first off is that this is not what I would consider a romance novel. If you are in search of a love story you will be somewhat disapointed. Don't get me wrong the story was interesting with enough angst, excitement and betrayal to keep a reader engaged but the romance aspect didn't really appear until the last 90% of the book and it wasn't a dominant factor at all IMHO.

This story was actually about a young boy (12ish) who is suddenly orphaned and sets out on his own to carve a life out for himself. He finds long term friendships, some betrayal, and finally love and family along the way. He starts out as a cowboy, than a ships captain and finally a wealthy ranch owner in the town he originally started out in. He is forced into some compromising positions due to his naivety but these experiences only mold the man he becomes.

Overall, I liked the story itself, the characters and really everything about it. I highly recommend it. This book had no vulgar language or explicit sex scenes but there was some violence (shootouts and murder). I'll be looking out for more of the authors work. Happy Reading and Enjoy

P.S. I appreciated the fact that it was co authored and was curious how this would all come together so cudo's dear authors

I would not recommend this book. It is not a romance and the coincidences are so far fetched you would have to be an idiot to believe them. The main character loses all his cash fortune twice. He runs into characters he met in San Francisco again in Bornea. He meets a girl he left at the age of ten on a train in another state when she marries a man he saves from a ship they were forced onto. Up until then they didn't know each other. Really?
