Editorial Reviews

Summer's (almost) here and the time is (just) right for dancin' in the streets - as Island Def Jam Music Group in collaboration with Ultra Records, premieres the first volume of JUST DANCE. This timely new compilation series presents the biggest dance mixes, remixes and edits that have proved themselves on the charts and on dancefloors, at clubs and radio across North America - from New York, Boston and Miami, to Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and beyond. JUST DANCE will arrive in the physical and digital marketplace on May 26th.

JUST DANCE serves up an essential collection of impossible-to-find versions of hits by Island Def Jam megastars Mariah Carey (the Seamus Haji & Paul Emanuel remix of "Touch My Body"); Rihanna (Jody den Broeder's edit of "Disturbia"); Ne-Yo (the Ultimix of "Mad"); the Killers (Armin van Buuren's remix of "Human"); Duffy (Hot 22's "Mercy" mix); Utada (the Tony Moran & Warren Rigg mix of "Come Back To Me"); andLionel Richie (the Mike Rizzo Funk Generation mix of "Just Go").

The IDJ hits are coupled with licenses from Ultra, starting with Pitbull's "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)," which is currently exploding on radio, online and in the clubs and is the song's first appearance on an album. Also included: the worldwide hit "Infinity" by Guru Josh Project (over 50 million views on YouTube); the Basshunter extended remix of "When You Leave (Numa Numa)" by Victoria's Secret supermodel Alina; the Jason Nevins Electrotek radio edit of the brand new song "Alive" by Annette Artani (finalist from Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest, and co-writer of "Everytime" by Britney Spears); and more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Please Ultra, bring back the two disc format or make one disc with longer tracks, May 29, 2009
This review is from: Just Dance (Audio CD)
Ever since Ultra started releasing these one disc dance mixes, everything that used to make the two disc sets great is missing--long remixes that are impossible to find on disc otherwise, smooth programming of like styles of dance tracks together, and a noticeable separation between the `commercial' dance disc and the more underground disc. This single disc stuff has become one big mish-mosh of styles slopped together in no particular order, with nearly 20 songs crammed onto one disc, leading to much shorter versions, and even tracks being repeated from one ultra release to the next! For collectors, there are a few reasons to get this disc, because these mixes are not available on CD elsewhere. This includes the Jody Den Broeder mix of Rihanna, the Armin Van Buuren mix of the Killers, The Tony Moran and Warren Rigg mix of Utada, and the Jason Nevins mix of Annet Artani. The disc begins with a hip hop track by Pitbull, then kicks into the slammin mix of Rihanna, and then the party comes screeching to a halt with a downtempo mix of Ne-Yo! Several great dance mixes of big artists follow, and then we get the annoying Sharam track, which samples classic Patsy Cline vocals and then jumps into a rap! Ugh! Boring electro follows with Kraak & Smaak, then we get the amazing Utada track (but only 4 minutes of it!), then a great remix of Lionel Richie. Luckily the remix of Guru Josh is pretty good, because I almost gagged when I saw this early 90s classic being recycled again. The Jason Nevins mix of Annet Artani is frustratingly short at under 4 minutes, because the song is fantastic. The basshunters are pretty much responsible for the last two tracks, good from a dance perspective, but not particularly memorable. This disc COULD have been great if they had just used all the big name vocal tracks and played them out for longer than 4 minutes each. That would have been a disc worth collecting. The only people buying CD format these days are collectors, so why not give them something worth collecting instead of these random remix discs?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Dance Mix, May 27, 2009
By
Thespiansf "thespian" (San Francisco, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This is a fun dance party remix of some of the hottest dance hits released over the past 6 months. This extended mix also includes some of the best producer/dj/remix artists out there - including Moto Blanco, Tony Moran and Warren Rigg, Jody den Broeder, Armin Van Buuren, and Jason Nevins. While this mix doesn't break any new ground - you can't beat the price, and the selected artists include established stars and new talent you may mot have discovered. deadmau5 and kascade, and Utada, are artists that dance and house music enthusiasts need to discover. (Check out deadmau5 and kaskade's "I Remember" and deadmau5 "Faxing Berlin").

As for breaks in the music after downloading - if you use Itunes - just go to the file info (after highlighting all of the songs in the album) and check gapless playback.
