Just David,
This review is from: Just David (Library Binding)
I read Just David in 1968.I was in 5th grade when my mother handed me a book & suggested I might like it. Just David became something special between us. It's a wounderful story of a young boy his father and a journey into life. Over the years I have let many people read my copy and they all leave a note in the book saying what this story meant to them. My copy is very old and not in the best shape. I have it in a safe place.

Memories and the Present,
By A Customer
This review is from: Just David (Library Binding)
I read this marvelous book when I was a fifth grader and absolutely loved it. My love for the book did not fade, as when I was in the eighth grade, I wrote a required book review and chose Just David as my book. My love of the book must have come through, as the teacher read it aloud to the class. She had never read anyone's book review aloud before--so the influence of this book is wide. A reprint would be so welcome to both today's young readers and to those of us who loved the book in the past. I hope to own Wendy Lawton's Just David doll someday.

When I was young my mother told me that I was named after the boy in the title of this book. My mother loved this book and wanted her only son to be like its title character, whom she admired greatly. It pleased me to be named after someone who was the subject of a book but, for some reason, I never bothered to ask my mother for details about either the book or its principal character, although she often spoke glowingly about the David for whom I was named. After my mother's death I regretted not having queried her for more details about Just David and its hero whom she so admired. When I found that Just David was available from Amazon.com I immediately ordered a copy and read it as soon as it arrived. To my pleasant surprise I found that I shared my mother's love both for the book and for its hero. I also understood for the first time why my mother had raised me as she had. I won't pretend to have all of the virtues possessed by the hero of this wonderful book, but I believe that I have more virtues than I would have if my mother hadn't used Just David's hero as a template for rearing me. I'm deeply grateful to my mother and to this special book which I recommend highly to others. I'm also grateful that in my career as a NASA scientist I had occasion to edit a book, Heterogeneous Atmospheric Chemistry, which is also available from Amazon.com. Although my mother was not alive when this book was published I like to think that she knows of its existence and is pleased by it.

Eleonar Porter's Greatest!,
By
This review is from: Just David (Whole-Hearted Family Classics Collection) (Hardcover)
David is a most unusually happy, contented, naive, talented and loving boy. Almost everyone tries to change him, but the only one to stay the same is 'Just David'. Not as famous as her great 'Pollyanna' but nothing more perfectly typifies this wonderful author's warm and tender work. Eleonar Porter writes characters that do not exist - but should.

Just David,

This review is from: Just David (The Best Sellers of 1916) (Library Binding)
Just David was a steal for me. I bought it at a Garage Sale along with many other old books. I had it for over a year before I finally read it. It is by far my most favorite book. I love how David always brings out the best in people without actually realizing what he is doing. He is young and the most naive little boy ever. He reminds me a bit of my six year old daughter. She always sees the beauty of something...even bugs. This is the only book I ever recommend. It is a wonderful, delightful, and interesting book. A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE! I am so glad it is still in print. I have seen it in many local libraries as well. I have since read other books by Eleanor Porter, but find Just David to be my favorite to date. Most Libraries will loan out there copies...so if not on your library shelf, see if they can find a copy for you to read. Enjoy! Lori

What a delight!,

"Just David" is a wonderfully delightful book. It shows the beauty of innocence. I love music and believe this book shows the power that good music can have on the lives of others. My daughter and I are both learning to play the violin. I am, in part, because of David's passion for expressing himself through his violin. My mother-in-law had me read it in October of 1999. Since then I have purchased several copies to give as gifts and, of course, bought one for myself! I purchased from a company called Whole Heart Ministries in Texas. If you would like more information e-mail me.

I can't believe I have found a place to put a review of Just David. It was a book my Grandmother had and all of us in the family since I was a little girl have taken turns reading it. It is one of the most uplifting, sweet stories a person could ever read. Somehow, it got lost over the years, however, a few years ago I got a hold of a copy and couldn't wait to read it again. My Mom and I both treasure our new copy of Just David.

An excellent book!,

This is great! I never thought that I would go online and see reviews of "Just David". My Granddad was named after 'David' in the book, and my great-grandmother read it first when she was pregnant with him. (that was in 1916 when it was first was published). We still have the book, and my granddad, mom, and I have all loved it. I love my violin myself after playing for 12 years, and it was partially because of this book that my mom wanted me to play, not that I can play like David could but... I just finished re-reading it again for about the fourth time. It was falling to pieces when it finally got to me, and so my mom asked me to rebind it for her, and hopefully another four generations will read it after me.
