Product Description

"Is It Just Me? or Is Everyone a Little Nuts!" offers a laugh out loud look at parenting, marriage, aging and small town living from an suburban point of view.

Written in short chapters, Coltman retells everyday life events, conversations and stories infused with her skewed sense of humor. These small snippets of life are moments in which anyone can identify and laugh at themselves as well. Middle age can be boring, but Coltman allows the naughty into her life from time to time, like her adult Scout Troop, "Cougar Scouts" Troop 69, or conversations between her middle aged self and her seventeen year old self that will leave you rolling ( and remembering!) A great quick read!!

Just spent the day laughing, smiling, tearing up, and thoroughly enjoying every moment of this book.
Coltman shares her endearing, humorous slant on the most normal life situations we all experience. You will see yourself, your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers in the characters she brings to life and it will simply make you smile when you recognize them. A must read, especially when life gets a bit too serious. I will be sharing this book with everyone.

This is an odd little book, but good for what it is. While it was, as promised, funny in places, I think it may have fell flat too often in others. While I don't think this was really the fault of the author, she obviously has quite the sense of humor, it can probably be attributed to the fact that we weren't let in on some of the details. I really felt disconnected from the places and people in the story. While I realize this was a collection of short stories, I think they lacked the needed set up in many places. It really could have used a bit of polishing up by a complete stranger, perhaps.

That's not to say that the stories that did make me laugh weren't absolutely hilarious. It really made me want to sit down with the author over a cup of coffee and just chat and joke around. Her writing shows that she's just as likable as she is humorous. The best example of this comes in Chapter 24. You see, our dear Ms. Judi likes to completely and utterly mortify her children. I like that. I love that. I'm totally doing it to my kid.

Overall, this a good read, the funny and fully-described stories make it extraordinarily laugh-worthy. While I mention the flat stories, I don't think it devalues the book too awful much. And hey, maybe I just don't have the sense of humor I thought I had.

Recommended for the 30 and 40-something women friends. I could see my friends and I reading parts of this together and not only identifying but adding our own humorous tales.

Left me wanting more September 4, 2010
Format:Paperback
I read this enjoyable book straight through the very evening I received it with my daughter repeatedly asking me why I was laughing out loud. So that's the good (hilarious) and the bad (a bit short). Her observations of small town life are accurate and hysterical at the same time. If you are from a small town you will recognize your friends and acquaintances; if you are a city dweller or suburbanite Judi will introduce you to small town living. And what's the negative? It's just too short. I know there are lots more stories for her to tell and can hardly wait to read them. I'd love to read what happened at home when she realized Moondoggy purchased 15 boxes of Girl Scout cookies from a single girl when everyone knows in a small town that you buy just a few boxes from each because you can't say, "No." to any of the girls if you buy from one. My daughter was disappointed that on future cookie sales, we always encountered Judi at the door. As a disclaimer, I should note that I moved to the same small town as Judi just a year after she arrived and have known her at least as long as when our oldest sons started school. I had to buy the book because I've always enjoyed her letters to the editor and more recently, her blog. Keep the stories coming, Judi.

Got some laughs, but not enough
This book was okay, but not what I expected. It's more of a blog than a story. The writer captured stories of things that happen in every day life that turn out to be sometimes... Read more

Disapointed
I was diapointed as I expected a more humorous interpretation of life events. A few of these recollections were on target, but the book left me a little flat.

It wasn't worth the $0.00 I paid for it.
Only three times in my life have I found myself unable to finish a book; this book was the third. A few chapters in, I had yet to crack a smile, let alone actually laugh. Read more

But not funny at all. I guess it's in the eye of the beholder (or mind of the reader). Makes me miss Erma Bombeck. Read more

More About the Author

Raised in an affluent suburb of Detroit, Judi Coltman grew up in a female heavy household with an urban sense of "normal." Coltman attended Michigan State University, majoring in Journalism until a professor requested she switch majors - "Apparently making a story better with added features isn't acceptable in the news world," Coltman laments. With a BA in English from Northern Illinois University, Coltman has written for local, regional and national publications.

Most recently, Coltman has been focusing on her true passion, delving into the realm or fiction. In The Name Of The Father is Coltman's first novel, a suspense/thriller. Currently working on her next novel, Coltman is still writing a blog called, "My Life in a Nutshell," from where her humorous book material was born. Often compared to Erma Bombeck, Coltman sees the humor in the absurdity of everyday life and then tells anyone who will listen.

Judi Coltman and her husband split their time between northern Illinois and the California desert. Sometimes they even pass each other at the airport.

There was this costume party coming up and a group of women were discussing what to wear when Tammy suggested they all dress as GIRL SCOUTS! Not just any girl scout mind you, but as COUGAR GIRL SCOUTS! They would all wear their uniforms with enough cleavage and bra showing to have no mistaking the intent. They would wear a sash that contained different levels of achievement badges (the Walk of Shame badge, the Triple Play badge and, of course, Proper Condom Application badge) and carry canteens filled with cosmopolitans. Their troop number? 69! "e;
