One of the greatest albums ever...period,

The greatest album from one of the greatest R&B vocal groups ever. The whole album is more than listenable, and "Rock Steady", "Love's Calling", and the title track are nothing short of pure bliss. It is surely one of music's great mysteries why "Love's Calling" did not make the R&B Top 40.

The Whispers haven't lost anything as far as Vocal Talent goes but Production hasn't been as fresh as on this one.In The Mood was the jam.Rock Steady took La&Babyface into another Level as Producers.that Jam still rocks too this day.a Must Have if you are a Whispers Fan.

DAMN GOOD MUSIC TO PARTY OR CHILL WITH A LOVER WITH,

Only 8 songs on this 1987 reissued classic. Everyone jammed to "Rock Steady" and everyone got closer than close to the one they loved on "In the Mood" but its the last three tracks on this CD that makes this one a timeless original. "Just gets better with time", "Love's Calling", and "Give it to me" are some of the most romantic slow jams ever recorded which was not uncommon for all of the SOLAR recording artists of that era. This was the last great Whispers album as they would pass the torch over to the Deele and eventually Babyface. This CD is a MUST HAVE!

This is still a superb album,

The album's major hit was Rock Steady, but it's no match to the rest of the album. Both I Want You and Special F/X are heavy on the funkiness! A one-two punch back to back as the setup to Rock Steady! Special F/X sounds very close to something Janet Jackson would have done on her Control album, but it still sounds great for the Whispers. The title song, Give It To Me, the dramatic In The Mood, and the sparse No Pain No Gain are all superb songs. The keyboard-heavy '80s sound matches well with the group's rich harmonies. It is still one of my favorite Whispers' albums!

The Title Says It All!,

Almost two decades later, this is still the group's most consistent release. Current R & B singers should enroll in this quintet's school of soul technique.

I'm afraid there aren't enough words to express my satisfaction with this particular purchase because after listening to it, it reminded me of a very special time in my life and how I survived it. It took a long time to find this cd. I purchased the album when it came out and well,...you know when that was. Suffice it to say, this is (along with all of my amazom purchases)a very special part of my new library. I hope amazon's service continues to not only give me my moneys' worth but continue to keep my reminiscing of "the good old days" something to look forward to with every purchase. You guys arew "off the chain". Thanks so much.

The ballads are timeless but...,

...unfortunately I can't say the same for the uptempo New Jack Swing-esque tracks. "In The Mood" went on to become a top-charting hit for The Whispers and a staple of Quiet Storm radio shows. "Love's Calling", the superb "Give It To Me" and the title track are all superior examples of Soul seduction and romanticism (which hold their own very well in comparison to any of the group's '70s ballads). In short, this CD should be in your collection but buy it for (and enjoy) the romantic ballads.

The magical chemistry shared between one of R&B's most prominent male vocal groups and one of music's brilliant producing teams is evident on this classic gem. The hits are endless. The Whispers alongside L.A. and Babyface and the incomparable Leon Sylvers, III give listeners nothing but the best. The group sets the mood with slow jam classics "In the Mood," "Love's Calling," "Give It To Me," and the album's sensual title track. This set too includes party jams like the funky "I Want You," "Special F/X," and the infamous R&B chart topper and Top 10 Pop smash "Rock Steady." From start to finish, this album indeed lives up to it's title.
