Editorial Reviews

Eric Darius took the contemporary jazz world by storm in 2004 with his debut album NIGHT ON THE TOWN. The critics raved. Fans clamored. This young sax player's pure talent and fresh enthusiasm for music made him an instant favorite. His second release JUST GETTING STARTED pairs Darius with his long-time musical inspiration, Brian Culbertson as producer and guest performer. Narada Jazz label mates Euge Groove and Jeff Lorber also lend their talents. Keyboardist and producer Darren Rahn joined in the act as well. 2006.

During 2004 I was able to experience for the first time several Jazz artists like Voodoo Village, Bass X, Double Play and of course Eric Darius to name a few. After listening to Eric's previous project (Night on the Town) I said this guy has potential. Now after hearing this effort, I say Eric Darius has Talent (with a capital `T')! He is a gifted songwriter and musically he reminds me of a young Dave McMurray, Paul Taylor and Gerald Albright combined. On this project he surrounds himself with great Talent featuring Brian Culbertson, Paul Brown and fellow Saxophonist Euge Groove. This CD Smokes with Eric's version of the Jeff Lorber tunes 'Groove On' and 'Steppin Out'. His rendition of Alicia Keys 'If I Ain't Got You' is quite mellow and impressive. 'Cant Let Go' and 'Slick' had the JazzeOne rocking. If you have never heard of Eric Darius, you will with this outstanding CD as he is 'Just Getting Started' and is far from finished. This CD is a Jazz lovers dream come true and I am proud to be the first to review it. ~the JazzeOne

Eric Darius combines smooth sax somewhat akin to a Boney James & David Mann mix. With Eric hailing from the Tampa Bay area, recently had the pleasure of seeing his live "Jazz On The Green" performance with Brian Culbertson - he along with Brian's dad covered the horn section superbly! "Right Here,Right Now" is as mellow as they come. Eric is destined for the top!

I absolutely love this new CD from Eric. Its soulful and classy, just like his first CD - "Night on the Town". If you ever have a chance to see Mr. Darius perform live, he has fantastic stage presence as he performs these songs!

What a stunning and beautiful cd. I love this guy - his talent is amazing and you really have to hear him. He performs beautifully here and it's great work. Can't Let Go and Right Here, Right Now are fantastic and excellent to chill to at the end of a long day with a glass of wine and low lights or candles. It's sexy, smooth and romantic and you have to have to hear him. I want to get any of his other cds, because if it's anything like this, I'll be back in heaven soon. Fantastic smooth music. I am a new fan for life.

After this young mans debut there was alot to live up to.Although there are some great tracks this is nowhere as strong an album as night on the town.I purchased this album Blind on the basis of his debut and wished for much of the same.May have something to do with his switch in label and production team.If you like this then i advise you to purchase his first release on Higher Octave.

I had the pleasure to meet Eric in 2004 here in Florida!!!!
He gave me his 1st CD "Eric Darius - Night on the Town 2004" Once I listened to the Cd I said to myself "He is going a Looooooonnnnnnngggggg way with his rare talent" I qoute:

"Sax prodigy Eric Darius took the contemporary jazz world by storm with his 2004 major label debut, NIGHT ON THE TOWN. Critics raved. Retail responded. Fans clamored. Eric's awesome talent and unjaded enthusiasm have made him the undisputed darling of the genre.

His new album, JUST GETTING STARTED, is a superb sophomore effort, jam-packed with tight tunes and swingin' grooves. With tracks produced by and featuring many of the genre's top players, this new set is a bold statement by a jazz star well on his way to the top.

JUST GETTING STARTED pairs Darius with one of his long-time musical inspirations, Brian Culbertson, with the composer/arranger/keyboardist/trombonist taking the producing reins as well as guest performing on several tracks. Narada Jazz labelmate Euge Groove lends his talents on his own composition Back At Cha and the stylish Fender Rhodes on Steppin' Up and Groove On comes courtesy of the Grammy®-nominated multi-instrumentalist, Jeff Lorber. Adding the talents of keyboardist and producer Darren Rahn and guitarist and producer Paul Brown, JUST GETTING STARTED is a bold statement by a jazz star well on his way to the top."

I was lucky enough to be at an Eric Darius concert at a jazz fest in the summer of 2013. He was so energetic and passionate I had to seek out his music. Leave it to Amazon to pull through. I started with this cd and was not disappointed. The funky tunes are upbeat and make me dance, while the slow mellow tunes relax me. I already have my favorite tune and hit the repeat button while I'm driving!
