Black, bitter and beautiful, she speaks of our survival James BALDWIN Maya Angelou writes from the heart and her language rings clear and true ... Whether joyful, sad or playful, her poems speak with delicacy and depth of feeling PUBLISHERS WEEKLY It is true poetry she is writing ... it has an innate purity about it, unquenchable dignity M.F.K. Fisher Maya Angelou liberates and exhilarates through her magical, lyrical, mystical medium - poetry MARY BRYCE, TRIBUNE

From the Inside Flap

Another remarkable collection of poetry from one of America's masters of the medium. The first part gathers together poems of love and nostalgic memory, while Part II portrays confrontations inherent in a racist society.

All of Maya Angelou's poems are self explanitory. She is the biggest inspiration in my life. I am 16years old and I can relate to all the things she went through in her life. I read her poetry and it gives me courage to go on and keeps me to believe in myself. She has the most encouraging words. Her books and poetry has helped me to amount to things in my life that I never thought that I could do. That is why she is my FAVORITE author.

Format: Kindle Edition
Today the country and probably the world is saddened by the passing of Maya Angelou, one of the premiere poets of out time. Yes she wrote novels, fine ones too, but it is always in her poetry that she managed to reach those inner parts of our being with a tenderness and yet a strong as steel approach that will make her forever remembered.

THEY WENT HOME

They went home an told their wives,
that never once in all their lives.
had they known a girl like me,
But ... They went home.

They said my house was licking clean,
no word I spoke was ever mean,
I had an air of mystery,
But ... They went home.

My praises were on all men's lips,
they liked my smile, my wit, my hips,
they'd spend one night, or two or three.
But ...

We will miss her poems, her stories, her influence, and her presence.`Parting is such sweet sorrow that we shall say good night till it be morrow.' Grady Harp, May 14
