This album is underrated in my opinion,
This review is from: Just Go (Audio CD)
I am a big Lionel Richie fan with my all time favorite back to front. I can understand how he has has struggled to stay relevant in recent times with some of his recent work wide off the mark. I went into this one with no expectations whatsoever but was very surprised by how good the album was especially when compared to a lot of the current music out there today. There was the old feel to the album yet there is a modern flavor about it. The album might not get the type of appreciation it deserves with the older fans desperately searching for the old Lionel Richie while the younger fans might not give him a chance because he belongs in the past but if you take the album and look at it for what it is, I really think it is a quality album.

What a great album!,

I really wasn't sure what to expect with this new CD, but it is amazing! I heard "Just Go" on the radio and instantly loved it. The title song's carefree chorus features Akon, who I think works very well with Lionel Richie. The song is real unassuming and likable, and it makes for a perfect song to listen to this summer. I thought Lionel's other song with Akon, Nothing Left to Give", was real catchy too. Akon's singing on this song is very similar to his work on Gwen Stefani's song "Sweet Escape".
"Forever and A Day" was very interesting, too. I thought the beginning of the chorus sounded a lot like those old Folder's coffee commercials ("The best part of waking up..." as compared to Lionel's "Girl, your the best part of me...") Whether it was intentional or not, it sure made me remember the song! "Good Morning" is a beautiful romantic song that is a real joy to listen to. I think it's one of the best on the album. "I'm In Love" is another great song that's enjoyable and sincere without being too loud or complicated. The song's got a great chorus that's a lot of fun to sing along with. Along the way, there were a few of the songs on here that weren't that memorable, but it doesn't mean they aren't good (for example, "Forever", "Pasttime", and "Think of You"). Even the "worst" song on here is "good", I think. The highlight of the last half of the album has to be Lionel's duet "Face in the Crowd". I was surprised the song was so upbeat and not slow like "Endless Love", but it worked very well. I hadn't heard of the female singer before, but she did a really good job. Another surprise was "Somewhere in London", a techno-infused song that is quite dancy. The album ends very well with "Eternity", a beautiful gospel-like song featuring a choir and wonderful message of unity. Great ending. If you like Lionel Richie and you're an objective music listener, you have to check this CD out. As a young person (23) who appreciates older music and has a limited taste for the modern stuff, this album is perfect. There are very few artists who can pull off something like this, where they remain true to their style while updating it and marketing it to a younger audience. What a wonderful surprise this CD was!

Sensual love songs and smooth vocals, feel-good music,

This album is cool. I loved "Just Go," and the other track with Akon is catchy too. It's all so sensual and it really puts you in a romantic mood. Lionel gives it a credibility and coolness that the Backstreet Boys can't do. It's from a more mature artist. I recommend it if you like "Just Go" (the song).

Highly Listenable - Underrated Album,

Lionel has been around for a long time ... grew up with him through his early days with the Commodores and then through his solo career. Lionel has written many different types of music throughout his career -- funk, r&b, country, etc. I'm a big fan of his music.
As one of music's elder-statesmen, this album fits in nicely with where he is now. I don't think that I want to see someone his age performing to the youth-tinged, sexually-charged ideals of today's R&B vibe. It just wouldn't fit! This is a strong album musically that can be listened to and enjoyed by people of all ages, with great "I'm-into-you" romantic lyrics & laid back music versus "I-want-to-jump-you" lyrics and bump and grind music. I love this album & I'm glad that Lionel didn't do something just to fit in with today's music scene where everything's basically the same beat and same sound, just a different face performing and a different voice singing. Thanks Lionel. You continue to show how it's done.

This is a fabulous tape, it has good rhythm, great lyrics and it flat makes you feel good. I have always liked Lionel Ritchie and was not disappointed by this CD. WONDERFUL. I have listened to it over and over and haven't gotten tired of it. Lionel still has what it takes. Buy this CD, you will smile, want to dance and overall just want more.

Credit to Lionel to be willing to turn to other songwriters on this album (all but one song are written by someone other than Lionel). While his own songwriting skills have slipped recently, his skill as an artist/musician clearly has not, as demonstrated on this album. Not a bad track in the bunch; all great mid and uptempo tracks with Lionel sounding as good as ever. But, standing head and shoulders above the other tracks and worthy of heavy radio play is "Face in the Crowd." The best Lionel song in probably 15 years, and one of the best songs of the year.

I'm amazed about how Lionel Richie has reinvented himself. He has used younger musicians to create music that is modern, but still has his signature beat. I believe his music will cross many generations for years to come. I enjoy listening to the music on my truck's stereo system. My truck's interior just bursts with the sound as I drive to and fro.

Lionel Richie still got it!,
By Austin (USA) - See all my reviews

I'll keep it simple - Lionel Richie still got it. The music is hip and radio friendly, so old fans and new should enjoy it. The best songs are: "Good Morning", "I'm Not Okay", and "Face In The Crowd"; The worst songs are: "Somewhere in London", "Forever and a Day", and "Pastime". Listen to the music samples and judge for yourself. The album features Akon and Taj Jackson (Nephew of Michael Jackson).
