5.0 out of 5 stars The Human Condition
Aside from being an absolutely lovely portrait of how dogs enrich our lives, this book gets at a question so many dog owners I know agonize about: what if you pre-decease your dog? A very, very moving story.

3.0 out of 5 stars More pictures than words
Well, I bought this book because of the title and subject matter. It really isn't a reading book but more of beautiful pictures of Gus and his owner. A sad tale but you really never get much of a story. I thought it would have more hints and tales about Gus--in depth. But you only get the fringe and just by looking at the pictures they tell a story (a girl that is...

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful lesson on living, March 8, 2006
This review is from: Just Gus: A Rescued Dog and the Woman He Loved (Hardcover)
This is a deeply touching and inspirational true story. The author gives you not just one but two characters in whom to invest your hopes and emotions. Gus's journey, from abandonment to the loving home and second chance given him by Stephanie, is the stuff of movies. He's also an extremely photogenic dog and the book's photos are in just the right balance with the text to draw you in and make you feel and identify with the characters. As for Stephanie, she's nothing short of heroic. Her example of dreaming big and never giving up is a model for all of us, regardless of individual challenges and hardships. Kind of a "what are waiting for" wake-up call. This is a really great read, perfect for animal lovers, for those who have taken life's knocks, and for all who dare to chase their dreams.

5.0 out of 5 stars A story of true love, March 6, 2006
This review is from: Just Gus: A Rescued Dog and the Woman He Loved (Hardcover)
Touching story that would make even the hardest of us soft. The photos are beautiful, the message is powerful, and the people are far and few between. Buy this book, if not for yourself, then for someone who needs inspiriation and support.

A sad tale but you really never get much of a story. I thought it would have more hints and tales about Gus--in depth. But you only get the fringe and just by looking at the pictures they tell a story (a girl that is dying and her dog that helps her through and then he finds a new home) without words. So, I flipped through in half an hour and now the book is on the coffee table.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for dog lovers! Must read!!!, March 27, 2006
By
This review is from: Just Gus: A Rescued Dog and the Woman He Loved (Hardcover)
"Just Gus" is the heartfelt true story of the special relationship between an adopted stray and his terminally ill owner. It describes Gus's life in terms suitable for all ages, and illustrates the type of healing that only comes from befriending an animal. "Just Gus" focuses more on the dog than the girl, showing the happy side of a sad story, although you will definitely shed a tear or two as you read. If you're already a petowner, it will make you appreciate your four-legged friend that much more; and if you're not, it will make you want to run out and adopt you're own "Gus" as soon as possible!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Gus Review, February 9, 2007

I thought the book was very well done. It made a great case for dog rescue which I am sure would please Stephanie Williams who had rescued Gus. It also demonstrated how important animal companions are to the people who love them.

4.0 out of 5 stars For Dog Lovers, January 12, 2007

This review is from: Just Gus: A Rescued Dog and the Woman He Loved (Hardcover)
This story was great for the dog lovers of the world-of which I am one. It is a bittersweet story with beautiful photos and simple prose. For me, this was not a 5 star book because I prefer a long story and this was a half hour read. In my opinion, that is just not enough story for the price. However, if you have dogs in your heart, this will be an enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very touching story., February 22, 2007

Not many pages but what the book says is very powerful. It makes you wonder how much fate and destiny really does factor in our lives. Hope was given to a woman in the form of a dog and hope was given to a dog by someone who I believe was meant to be the one. They found and needed each other is a under statement. The story will make you laugh and cry. Worth every dime and I would recommend it to anyone.

a wonderful story, very well told and covered beautifully in photographs. it reminds us that taking just one poor little lost pup from an animal shelter and giving it love and understanding, can so enrich our lives, no matter what our situation is or what lies ahead.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Just Gus: A Rescued Dog and the Woman He Loved (Hardcover)
Great little read for on your lunch-hour (takes about 20-30 minutes to read). Wonderful story about the bond between owner and rescued dog...and the love that can develop. I would certainly recommend this for all lovers of dogs and especially those that have recued a dog. you may need a couple of kleenex.
