Awfully close,

Okay, people might be dissing this because Katie Melua does a remake of the popular song "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure, but I love how they included both versions on the soundtrack. To be honest, I think both of them are really good. The Cure's original version still has that dreamy version with Robert Smith's unforgettable vocals, but Katie Melua version is awfully damn good for a remake. It's a slowed down acoustic version and really puts the whole song into awhole new light, really letting see you the beauty in the lyrics: "You're stranger than a thousand dancing angels, twisting in the water, you're just like a dream." The rest of the songs on here are fun as well. I even like Kay Hanely's Iggy Pop remake of "Lust For Life." "Spooky" by Imogen Heap is also not a track to be missed, and of course "Colors" by Amos Lee is a beautiful song as well. The ending tracks are all classical music. Rolfe Kent did a great job on that too. If you loved the movie as much as I did, I would say it's worth it to get the soundtrack. The songs capture the movie pretty well. I would say the only track I didn't get was Jungle Fever, I tend to skip over that one, and "I Put A Spell On You" is the older version.

"....Dancing in the Deepest Oceans, You're Just Like a Dream....",

Fans of the Cure will no doubt disagree, but I like Katie Melua's cover of their "Just Like Heaven" better than the original. (Both versions are in the movie and on this CD.) Melua's soft voice and the guitar work are sublime, and the lyrics, which are kind of lost in the Cure's version, come to the fore in Melua's. The lyrics are also given more meaning after you connect them to what happens in the film, which in my opinion was just about the best movie of 2005.
Another outstanding track is Amos Lee's "Colors," which played towards the end of the film when David (Mark Ruffalo) thought that he had lost Elizabeth's (Reese Witherspoon) love forever.

Honestly, a person could listen to Katie Melua's version of Just Like Heaven and fall in love! And, since you cannot download this song by itself on iTunes, it's worth buying a used version of this soundtrack for just that song alone. Incredible!
Imogen Heap does a most wonderful and breathy version of the song Spooky. Another great song on this soundtrack, and worth buying a used version just for those 2 songs. Of course, there are other great songs on this album, and if you didn't already own them like I did, then by all means, order now.
