Excellent resource for parents, teachers and children,
By LeeAnn Balbirona (Washington state) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Just Like Mary (Paperback)
I highly recommend all three books in this series (A Child's Guide to the Mass, Just Like Mary and Little Acts of Grace). I use these books frequently in my Religious Education class and also give them to my children to read during the homily. Nice artwork (simple, not traditional, but not insipid either), very simple and accurate descriptions of what the Catholic faith actually teaches and truly inspirational. I hope there will be more in the series!

This book packs a lot of solid Catholic teaching about Mary into simple and engaging language for young children. The book has short re-tellings of Biblical and traditional Catholic stories about Mary's life including the Immaculate Conception, her dedication to God as a young girl, the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the Presentation at the Temple, the Flight into Egypt, Jesus' Preaching at the Temple, the Wedding at Cana, Jesus' Crucifixtion, Mary as Mother of the Church, and praying the Hail Mary and the Rosary. This makes an excellent addition to a Catholic homeschool program or for supplementing a parish CCD program.

I bought several of the books by Rosemary Gortler for my grandchildren and was very happy with all of them. They are enjoyable for the children, plus a good Faith teaching tool, and not just a bit of "fluff". I am always happy with books published by Our Sunday Visitor Press. One can rely on them to be true to the Faith.

My daughter requested this to be read every night when she was 2 y/o. She loved it then & still enjoys it a year later! Excellent book & highly rec'd to anyone fostering religious values in their children.

Purchased for my daughter who is going through first communion classes. She is 8 and a good reader. It's a nice little book albeit a bit immature for her. But it's nice to have a book which introduces Mary to little girls.
