Fantastic, Especially For Twins!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Just Like Me (Revised Edition) (Paperback)
This book was one of my favorites as a child, and I am buying the newest edition to read to my children. I always wanted to be a twin like Julie and Jennifer. It teaches that children can be alike and different because that's what makes them unique. Although it is a little bit repetitive, with every page ending, "Just like me," or "Not like me," it emphasizes the point that no two people are exactly alike, but everyone has some things in common.

My five year old loves this book. It was a loan from the school library, but now it has a home for good. This book is easy to memorize making it very easy for early readers to learn how to read!!!

This review is from: Just Like Me (Revised Edition) (Rookie Ready to Learn) (Paperback)
This is a wonderful little story about twin sisters who are alike in a lot of way, but different in a lot of ways too. Your child will be introduced to fifty-seven words, many he or she may already know in this book that is very, very easy to love. I know I fell in love with it a long time ago and still love it today. Jennifer and Julie are super little girls your child will just love, as I did when I was a little girl.

We all should allow twins to be unique individuals. This means, giving them options. If friends and family get them outfits that are the same, and they are old enough to have an opinion, ASK them if they want to dress alike today. DON'T MAKE THEM! You will find that sometimes they DO want to dress alike, but most often, they want to dress differently. They are not two halves a whole person, who without the other would not be complete. Identical twins are not REALLY identical in every way. If you look at them, you will even see differences in their appearance. We should celebrate their differences and talk about how they are alike, but also how they are different, and how cool that is. How special they really are! (I wrote a book myself about twins, and will work on the illustrations, then try really hard to get it published, but I have heard that that's the tough part.) But anyway, this book "Just Like Me" does a good job with showing both perspectives, as it should be. Great book! Cute little illustrations...my identical twin 6 yr old girls really like it.

My twin daughters are 3 years old. I don't think they understand that they are "different" and "special" because they are twins. So, I bought this book. It shows how twin sisters can be the same: She has brown hair, Just like me. And it shows how they can be different: She likes to wear dresses, Not like me.
It's really great and they love it. I think they are starting to understand more about what "twins" really means.

I got Just Like Me for my identical twin daughters when they were three and a half. Six months later, it continues to be a favourite, requested often by name. They've even taken it to daycare to share with their friends. The first half of the book shows the ways in which Julie and Jennifer are similar; you can always tell who is who because one wears pink, and the other purple. The second half of the book talks about the ways in which they are different. The takeaway message is that they may look the same and share some likes and dislikes, but they are distinct people.
The simple repetitive structure and pastel line drawings are perfect to hold an infant's attention and to help new readers learn to recognize words. My daughters now recognize the words "just", "not", "like" and "me" out of context, thanks to this book. My daughters are often mistaken for one another, and constantly hear strangers asking about how they're different or how to tell them apart. Just Like Me has given me a fantastic tool with which to frame my conversations with my daughters about their similarities and differences, and why so many people ask questions about their twinhood. I'm actually buying several copies of this book to give to other pairs of twins as birthday presents, along with Twin Spin - Tunes for Twins.
