The Best of Season 8, and Maybe the Best Idol Album Yet!,
By
This review is from: Just Like You (Audio CD)
1. FIBOU - I like the song. It's upbeat and catchy and my friends that have heard it, the female friends, really liked it. These are ppl that do not watch idol. I certainly feel there are about 11 songs better than it on the CD though.9/10
2. Robot Love - I was not a fan of the snippet, but I actually like it now. It's something that I don't relate to so much personally, but it's a great target demographic song. Not to mention I think the beat is smokin. I definitely wouldn't skip it on a whole album listen kinda day.8/10 3. Just Like You - I think I pay more attention to the piano keys in this song than her voice. I love the song/lyrics A LOT, but I prefer/LOVE the acoustic. Once she hits the chorus, I'm able to concentrate on her voice and the song a little more, but that piano, less percussion really takes this song down a notch in the beginning stages, but it picks itself back up as the song goes on.9/10 4. Don't Waste The Pretty - It's apparently slated to be the next single, and part of me has issue with that and part of me doesn't. I think it's totally radio friendly. It's odd to me that some of these songs seem to take flight at the beginning of the first chorus. These hooks totally rock, but again I FLOVE the acoustic, and I mean FLOVE it! I think these lyrics are really good and many ppl will relate. I just feel production off the chrous/back end of the song is lacking a bit. Her voice is top notch though on those beautiful's that she belts out at the end. 9/10 5.SCARS - The album starts right here! This is one of those that from the opening strum is PERFECTION. Absolute perfection. Lyrics are possibly the best on the album and it may be my favorite Idol song ever. Her vocal is impeccable. The beat is chill, and she sings it in such a believable tone, as if she's actually feeling what she is singing. I think Allison does that better than 95% of the artists that I listen to. One reason why already she is in my top 5% favorite artists ever. 11/10 6. Pieces - As i stated already, the album really started at Scars for me. Totally captivated the from the beginning. I have no problem with production. The hook is hot. Great song 9/10 7. D is for Dangerous - I like JYL and DWTP a little better than this song, but I really like this song. I like the opening riff a lot. Again, another really good chorus. You'd be an idiot saying any song on this album is not catchy. Each tune has a distinct quality that is very much listenable. I like the progression of a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,I,j,k,l,m and then stopping to finish out the song. I think it adds to the meaning. 8/10 8. Holiday - Hottness baby. This one has a sick beat, freah feeling from an older Green Day sampled song. Love the energy. I can see myself jamming out to this song. This girl has a knack for a hot a$$ hook!!! Love it 10/10 9. Still Breathing - Love everything about it. Very radio friendly, but a fantastic song in it's own right. Production is top notch IMO. I think we might get 5 singles off this album, and I wouldn't be surprised in 6-8 months if this is top 10 on the billboard. 10/10 10. Trouble Is - I love a beautiful ballad. This is my favorite chorus on the CD, and dear god at the end of the song she goes higher than high. Chills run down my spine every moment of this song. Spectacular, perfect, moving, & more. I can't pick a favorite on the album b/t this and Scars. 11/10 11. No One Else - Penned by Kara Dioguardi and Pink I believe. It sounds like it was written by them honestly. And that's not a bad thing. I JAM THIS SONG! It's great. Catchy. Sooo many songs on this album have the opportunity to be big hits. SOO MANY! 10/10 12. Beat Me Up - It just makes me want to dance. The lyrics about an "abusive" lover take a back seat just because you want to get up and move to this. I wish it was little longer. Hottest beat on the LP for sure. Kevin Rudolf did a great job on this one. I read someone thought it was repetitive. I don't really think so. Maybe since it's a short song it seems that way. Whatever I don't care. 10/10 13. You Don't Know Me - Love the melody. Love the lyrics. Just that Allison has a part in writing this makes it wonderful, but that she pulled off great lyrics makes it fantastic. One can only wonder where some of them came from?? I'll leave that up to you. 10/10 Album = A A fantastic debut. If they included an acoustic JLY and DWTP, or a few of these songs live, it would easily be an 11/10 kinda album. I'll give it a 9.6/10 if I had to go numerical. Every chorus on this CD is sooo good! That never happens when I listen to an album. No song is too one dimensional. It's a great medley of emotion, song writing, and production. LOVE IT

AMAZING ALBUM!,

I must say, this is the best debut Idol album to ever exist. Its got the perfect mix of pop and rock, and it's VERY Allison. Despite there being 11 producers for just 13 songs, the whole album just meshes together, very well, if I do say so myself. I LOVE this album, and Allison deserves every bit of success that this album will bring her.
Buy the album! You won't regret it! It's AMAZING.

I hate comparing her to Kelly Clarkson...but I have just got to say this girl delivers in her first CD the same way Kelly did in hers...the contest might be over but Allison is still in it to win it...after being disappointed about Adam's album...felt like it was way overproduced...Allison is just raw talent in all its glory...her voice is very unique...like a grittier in your face Kelly Clarkson...I am absolutely obsessed with this album...well done Allison...bravo! My first time writing a review for an album here...that's how much I love it...a must buy!

The Best Debut I've Heard,
This review is from: Just Like You (Audio CD)
You know I was a little worried about Allison. Cause I thought they were gonna really try to stuff her into the Britney mode or Miley BUT I am soooo happy I was wrong. This is a great album and for a debut album it is out of this world amazing. I really loved "Trouble Is", "Scars", "Holiday" and "Just Like You". I wish those had been chosen as single cause I think they really represent her and her voice a lot better than the actual singles that are out and coming out. But I do like the singles just not as much as those other songs. Now I absolutely love Adam Lambert and Kris Allen but I think she has the best album debut of all 3 (Adam, Kris and Allison). This album I had to only play once and I was hooked and already had formed a good opinion of whereas other albums I have to listen to a few times to see if I really liked it or not.
I really hope she does well because she really hits the right note of fast and slow songs with this album. And she has such feeling in the slower songs its stunning that she is only 17 yrs old. If the label wants a good pop song for a single they should release "Holiday" that was really good and catchy and I dont even really like that genre of songs but I really loved that song. Actually I think that should have been the debut single, it really is great.

Adequate Beginning,

Allison Iraheta was my favorite of a very gifted assortment of performers during American Idol's '09 season, probably the best group to date. Along with an incredible voice she displayed an artistic maturity well beyond her 17 years. When she performed a Janis Joplin song, I believe it was "Cry Baby," I felt shivers up my spine. Having once met Janis, and a rapt attendee at many of her concerts, I know she herself would've been duly moved.
With great anticipation I bought Allison's "Just Like You" CD before it was even released. It is a good album, an adequate beginning, but not up to the singer's abilities and potential. While the songs have their hooks and catchy choruses, understandibly aimed at Allison's generation, other than the poignant "Scars" and "Trouble Is," with its neat refrain, there is a "sameness" of beat, volume and instrumentation that tends to make it monotonous. Driving rock and power ballads are independently stronger when contrasted with the change of pace of occasional softer, more sensitive musical moments. Allison knows how to do this, as evidenced by the aforementioned cuts, but the producers of this album did not give her enough opportunity to show her versatility. Also, the listener would be drawn to and marvel even more at the amazing richness of Allison's voice if a piece incorporated an instrumental counterpoint break (i.e. guitar solo) after one stanza or refrain. I'm certain Allison Iraheta's enormous talent will prevail. Who knows, maybe they'll even let her do a cover of Joplin's "Cry Baby." Janis would definitely approve.

One of The Best Albums of The Year!,

This album is simply amazing, I didn't expect for her debut album to be this great. This album is a must have album of 2009. Allison reminds me of Kelly Clarkson, and Pink mixed together, which is great. I like all the songs on this album. I hope she is around for a long time. Go get this album, and support Allison, she deserves it.

Addictive, fun, young, underrated!!,

Allison has a great voice, and I think she was overlooked on this past season of Idol.
I have become addicted to this CD! All the tracks are great. A lot of the songs are geared towards a teen audience, but that is not a bad thing, after all, Allison is only 17 herself. If you've heard the first single, Friday I'll Be Over U, don't let that judge what the rest of the album will sound like. While I like the song, it's probably one of the weakest on the album. It doesn't have the depth and meaning that the other songs have. She certainly doesn't sound 17!! Just Like You is very likeable as a whole. Her voice reminds me of Pink, Kelly Clarkson and a little Ashlee Simpson. If you liked her on Idol, I would definitely give this a try. My favorite songs are Robot Love (talks about how her boyfriend is in love with a robot, always on the cell phone or laptop; very fun and catchy), Don't Waste the Pretty (telling girls not to settle for a less-than boyfriend and that you are worth it), Scars (accepting people for who they are), D is for Dangerous (uncontrollable desire for someone), Trouble Is (taking chances), No One Else (love song, describing someone who loves everything about her, doesn't see her flaws, "you're like no one else.") and You Don't Know Me (Sounds a lot like Pink on this one!).

Another great album from a talent show finalist. I had intended to review Adam Lambert's offering next, but I just got Allison's album and on listening to it, I decided it merited a review way before Adam's.
Her distinctive rocker husky growl and yell is put to good effect in this selection. Forget about her being 17 years old. She's a natural who sings with the authority and experience of a thirty-seven year old - that's a heck of a compliment. Reminds me of Joan Jett, Janis Joplin, among others. Good, solid songs, not a turkey among them, but the standouts are Holiday (co-written by another talent show finalist, Dilana - we have a lot to be grateful for as far as these shows go) and Still Breathing. Honourable mentions to Friday I'll Be Over You, Robot Love, Beat Me Up. Allison plays to her strengths and doesn't put a foot wrong. 21st century girl pop/rock with strong hints of classic rock chops. On my personal, arbitrary scale, I've rated two songs of the thirteen as five stars, seven as four stars, two as four stars, one as three stars and half a star, and two as three stars.

I agree that this has to be the best debut album from an Idol. Allison's voice is beyond amazing. There are a variety of sounds to this album, and I must say I love them all. I enjoy the way she puts her own spin on each song.
The more pop-sounding songs like "Friday I'll Be Over U" and "Robot Love" are catchy with a nice beat, and they definitely have some edge to them. "Scars" and "Trouble Is" are beautiful, beautiful songs. You can really hear the rawness of Allison's voice in "Scars." I wasn't as crazy about the snippet of "No One Else" as much as the other songs, but when I heard the full song, it just blew my mind. It's one of my favorites. Allison totally rocks in "Holiday," a kickass cover of Dilana's song. My absolute favorites are "D Is for Dangerous," "Holiday," "No One Else," "Scars." This is a very "in-your-face" album, as Allison describes it. Her vocals are powerful, and her musical phrasing is impeccable. The songs are heartbreaking, empowering, and real. People would definitely be able to relate to this album.

Finally...a CD worth buying!! every track on "Just Like You" is GOOD! Already have this CD on repeat, the voice of Allison is simply amazing, and she delivers on especially emotional tracks such as "Trouble Is", "No One Else", "Scars", and "Don't Waste The Pretty" to name a few. This album will definitely go down as one of the best of 2009, no doubt in my mind. See a very very BRIGHT future for Miss Iraheta - and I can't wait!
