This review is from: Just Like You (Pictureback(R)) (Paperback)
This is what I wrote for my school project:
I curled up on the couch with my six month old and read him this book. Just Like You. One word to describe this book is AMAZING. Why did I enjoy this book so much? Of course, Elmo is so adorable, but I also enjoyed this book because it portrays real life situations. Lizzy who is in a wheelchair answers questions for Elmo, questions that are natural for all young children to have. Lizzy explains to Elmo that she likes to do things all by herself because it makes her feel good. She explains to Elmo, that she also needs help with some things. Elmo learns that Lizzy has so much in common with him.
I would recommend this book for children ages two years old and up, However, it can be enjoyable for Infants, toddlers, and adults also. This book will encourage children to ask questions about disabilities, so be prepared. Just Like You is the perfect book. Children will want to play with children in wheelchairs and they will want to get to know them. Confidence will build in children who are in wheelchairs and they will feel more accepted. This book provides just the right amount of information for preschoolers. This book is very valuable in educating young children about this disability because they will have a better understanding, become more accepting, and build the self-esteem in those children who are in wheelchairs. I think that it is important to begin educating children as soon as possible about children who are in wheelchairs, but keep it simple and fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just Like You, March 15, 2005

I feel this book sends a positive message to children about people who have disabilities. This book would be a great learning tool for children aged four to eight becuase they will be able to relate to the setting and the characters in the story.

Throughout the story children will be able to relate to the different activities Elmo and Lizzie are both able to accomplish, there is nothing Lizzie is not able to do without a little (if any) assistance.

This book would be a positive way to introduce children to people who use wheelchairs, especially for those students who may not have the opportunity to meet someone who does.
