Meditation advice with commericals thrown in,
By A Customer
This review is from: Just Listen (Paperback)
Another self help book offering meditation advice as a way to learn to hear your own voice. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it just has been done much better by others. On a technical level by Mark Epstein in his facinating books "Thoughts without a Thinker" and "Going to Pieces without Falling Apart" and Jon Kabat-Zinn on a more interpersonal level. What really ruined this book for me were the constant 'commericals' for her Quiet Corner products. Almost every page had references to what seems to have become a cottage industry for her in Quiet Corner seminars as well as her other books. It quickly became quite annoying so that I quit the book after 50 pages. The concepts in the book are a great idea, but has been done better elsewhere. Skip it.

Clear and Simple,
This review is from: Just Listen (Hardcover)
This is a lovely book. Really simple and clear in its suggestions regarding finding a way to awareness and acceptance by paying quiet attention. The author's previous book, "Find a Quiet Corner" was similarly clear and direct in cutting through the mumbo-jumbo that so oftens surrounds books in this category. Nancy O'Hara has obviously practised what she is here preaching, she is not presenting a theoretical guide, but the results of her own experience, and that of the attendees at her "Quiet Corner" seminars. Very useful, highly recommended.

Strongly influenced my outlook on life,
By A Customer
This review is from: Just Listen (Paperback)
I have been reading this book with a girlfriend. It has helped me learn so much about myself, and i thought i was already pretty together. I look forward to reading this book each week and feel so much more at peace with myself.Nancy O'Hara writes in a very easy to read manner. You can relate to her easily and draw parallels to your own life. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for help to develop peace and happiness in their life. Thank you Nancy :)

Deep, meaningful, easy to read guide to meditation.,
By Candi or astrawser@rand.com (Cleveland, Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Just Listen (Hardcover)
I recently saw this book in the hands of a tall, dark handsome stranger on a flight from Boston to Cleveland in mid-December 1998. I felt strongly led to ask this man if he was enjoying what he was reading. "I've liked all her books", he replied, referring to the author, Nancy O'Hara. We spoke briefly and I told him I intended to order this book from amazon.com and perhaps even write my own review for the web page. If you are reading this right now and you remember me, PLEASE contact me at my e-mail address today! I will have a new e-mail address after Feb 1, 1999 = strawser@nmedia.com. Let's discuss (or experience) these concepts!
