This compilation contains seven previously published Little Critter mini-books: "Just for You", "When I Get Bigger", "I Was So Mad", "All By Myself", "Just Go to Bed", "Just a Mess", and "I Just Forgot." Each is a delight. After two months, my three-year old can practically recite every story.

Done in classic Mayer style, the illustrations are all very clever and there is always a subtle lesson of some kind available. Great stuff.

My daughter loves Little Critter (what kid doesn't? Its my favorite, too!) She asks me to read her the books every night and we were getting in need of some new stories, so I found this collection for sale. We already had 2 of the books but the price more than made up for the 5 we didn't. She asks me to read all 7 every single night, and we got it two weeks ago, along with other books. She really loves this collection. She sees herself in Little Critter.

"When I'm Bigger" talks about being in 1st grade (she's going into Kindergarten in the Fall) and going to the store by himself and buying boots by himself and all big boy decisions, something all little kids look forward to making, but nothing too far ahead, just far enough to look forward to!

"What a Mess", a favorite of ours, finds Little Critter cleaning his messy room in order to locate his baseball mitt. It's hilarious and gets across the message of keeping your room clean so you know where your favorite things are when you need them in a fun way.

"I Was So Mad", another favorite, talks about all the naughty things Little Critter wanted to do, that every child can relate to, that adults just kept stopping him from. He keeps getting madder and madder until he decides to run away. But then his friends come along and invite him to play and instantly difuse his temper and he decides he'll run away tomorrow if he's still so mad.

"Just For You" In this one Little Critter keeps trying to help his mom but everything he does he messes up. He tries to carry the groceries and the bag breaks. He tries to set the table but is distracted by t.v., etc., It's kind of an ode to Mommy, very sweet and again, relatable.

"Just Go to Bed" This Breaks down the bed time ritual in all of our homes.

After almost 8 months, this is still a bedtime favorite. My son and I love it. We especially like searching each page for the little spider, mouse and grasshopper. Thanks, Mr. Mayer, for many wonderful evenings of snuggling and reading!

For years my grandchildren have loved Mercer Mayer's Little Critter books. They deal with everyday situations from the point of view of a child. The books are colorful, simple, and beloved by my grandchildren. I recommend unhesitatingly.

Our kids read constantly, and the regular Little Critter books that are read often and loved by our kids often don't stand the test of time. My daughter was distraught when some of her books got ripped or ruined by her younger brothers so I found this collection which has most of the ones she lost.

Little Critter stories are always short, charming and have adorable pictures so I love reading them to my children.

This book contains: Just for You, When I Get Bigger, I Was So Mad, All By Myself, Just Go to Bed, Just a Mess, I Just Forgot.

This is a hardcover book so it will definitely survive many readings and little brothers! It is also convenient to have all of the stories in one location. It is also a great value, to get seven stories that retail around 3 or 4 dollars a piece for only around 10.

There is no downside to this purchase! I highly recommend Little Critter to any parent :)

My 3 year old daughter's first Little Critter book was a lift the flap Little Red Riding Hood story. I thought the story was well written, and simple enough for her to understand. So I figured it would be worth a shot to get a few more Little Critter stories. She absolutely loves them! The illustrations are colorful, the stories are easy for young kids to relate to (probably best for 4 or 5 year olds, but enjoyed by all ages), and the convenience of having a few stories in one book makes this a great buy.

I grew up reading Little Critter books and my son now loves them. I like this book because it has several stories in it and it's cheaper than purchasing the individual paperback books. I highly recommend this book.

A great collection of stories I remember fondly from my own childhood. I bought this book for my daughter for Christmas to carry on the tradition of great books for Christmas. Wonderful lessons with an endearing character.

More About the Author

MERCER MAYER began writing and illustrating children's books in 1966, and since that time, he has published over 300 titles. Open almost any of the award-winning author/illustrator's books, and out may pop dragons, cuddly monsters, wonderful creatures, and endearing critters.

"Most of my books are about things that happened to me when I was a little kid," says Mercer. "Now that I'm a big kid, I write about things that happen now, especially with my own children. They always help remind me of what it was like."

Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Mercer Mayer spent his childhood hunting lizards and snakes in the swamps near his home. During his teenage years, he attended the Honolulu Academy of Arts. He later received additional training at the Art Students League in New York City. Upon completion of his studies, he set out with pen and ink to write and illustrate a collection of children's books, reflecting many of the adventures he experienced as a child.

In 2007, Mr. Mayer was commissioned by Laura Bush to create the artwork used for the National Book Festival held on September 29 on the National Mall. He was an honored guest to the event, giving a demonstration and autographing hundreds of books for fans who attended.
