Have I seen a better movie? I think not.,

Just Looking, this hilarious movie, written by Marshall Karp, and directed by Jason Alexander(Seinfeld, Pretty Woman, Rocky and Bulwinkle) is a beautiful portrayal of life in the Fifties. They nailed every detail, from the cars to the mentioning of certain events, to the Brill Cream in the hair. The movie is about this boy, Lenny, who is 14, played by Ryan Merriman, and his adventures during one memorable summer. In the Fifties, it was very taboo to ask your parents about sex, and other things of the nature so you found out other ways. His mother, played by the incredible Patti LuPone and his step-father played brilliantly by Richard Licata send Lenny off for the summer to live with his aunt and uncle. This is where he meets his best friend John, played by the lovable and talented Joseph Franquinha. John, along with his friends Barbara and Alice welcome Lenny into their "club" and teach him a thing or two. The adventures they encounter are ones he won't forget for a long time to come. This "coming of age" movie, is not only funny, but heart warming and smartly written and directed. Jason Alexander's movie is one that I hope YOU don't forget for a long time to come as well.

like other reviews have said, i caught this while skimming through the movie channels. unfortunately, i didn't get to see the beginning - i just caught on that the movie was about this kid wanting to know about sex. that just sparked my attention, but the story line of the movie itself drew me in.it's a wonderful movie with great acting, especially for the part of lenny. the movie touches on some subjects that some people could consider "disturbing", but we all know thats a part of life and part of learning about the birds and the bees. some aspects just take you by surprise. definately would keep true to the guidelines of the R rating, though. if youre past youre awkward pubity years, this movie will definately take you back to how you were feeling back then.

A GREAT COMING OF AGE MOVIE!!,

I recently bought this video used from a rental shop. Though I had never heard of it-nor seen it, I thought I'd give it a shot!I was very pleased with my decision after viewing it. It was a very funny and heartwarming story that takes place in the 1950's. It re-creates that time and place quite well! The actors were very good and the story was also. It teaches us about life, love, sex and of course, married life! Most importantly, it was a wonderful movie with a blend of comedy and a touch of drama. Both make for a great film! I highly recommend that you see it if you haven't already!

It is an great coming-of-age film by Jason Alexander. It reminded me of growing up in the same era and having an unrequieted crush on a knock-down-gorgeous model 10 years my senior. Alexander handled the perinnial exploration of sexuality by budding teenagers with humor, sensitivity and a wise director's tongue-planted-firmly-in-cheek. If you can find it just seeing Gretchen Mol in capri pants and less is worth whatever price you pay for it. Also the color was excellent. If you cannot find it and have DISH or cable sometimes it comes up on the Independent Film Channel, sans commercials.

I first saw this movie when i saw skimming thru the movie channels bored out of mind when I came across the movie Just looking starring Ryan Merriman who plays the title role lenny and what surprised me it's directed by jason alexander. I am glad i watched it. from beginning to end i was giggling and laughing. This movie is set in the 50's. It's about lenny a 14 kid who has alot of questions about the opposite sex you know the normal stuff kissing, love, marriage but who am i kidding he's a kid in america he's curious about sex! But don't let me turn you off of this movie this is a heartwarming film as well it touches on subjects as sex and the difficulties of married life and family. But all in all this movie a great and funny film and a movie i think anyone will enjoy.

SUMMER OF 42 meets THE WONDER YEARS,

Oh yes, reminds me of my youth, reading those 8 pagers and Playboy. This is one of my favorites. Ryan is outstanding. I wonder what else he has done. I was expecting a PORKYS type movie, but was surprised by the quality and realism. Usually I don't like profanity, but it is absolutely required in this movie. I was thinking. Ryan was asked by another male kid to join a sex club. The only other members were two girls. I don't know about you, but if I was the other kid, why would I want another male to move in on the two girls. Two females and me: that's my kind of sex club!

Simply Great!,

Just Looking is one of those films that is pure magic. Screenwriter, Marshall Karp tells a great story with captivating characters that I haven't been able to forget. The characters are likely to remind you of people from your neighborhood that you knew as a child. Jason Alexander makes choices at places in the movie that reveal his limited directing experience, but the rough edges make the film even more charming. He paints a picture that's like a sepia-toned memory. It's warm and sentimental with lots of laughs.

Just Looking for What It Means to Be a Man,

Much more than the possible teen exploitation fest the title and description might suggest. This film, directed by Seinfield's Jason Alexander, is actually a charming and realistic picture of a young Jewish boy in the 50s negotiating what it means to be a raging adolescent full of hormones, but also a young adult learning what kind of man he wants to be. Subtle in some parts and slapstick in others, the message is that sex is mysterious but our relationships with other people are way more mysterious than that. Ryan Merriman in the main role is especially excellent - the perfect fourteen-year-old boy. (He reminds me of my nephew. Just don't tell my sister.)
