Format: Hardcover
"Just make them beautiful!" This was the injunction of Louis B. Mayer, the longtime chief of the legendary MGM, to his chief designer, the Academy Award winner Helen Rose, and this is her story. It's a mixture of her personal reminiscences of, mainly, over two decades at MGM during its glory days, with discussions of the innumerable costume designs she turned out for the movies (and also lots of other folks such as the Ice Follies). Numerous color and B&W illustrations, including many of her fashion sketches. This book was published in a limited-run edition in 1976 and many copies (my own, for example) were personally inscribed by her. A real must-have for anyone who's a fan of classic movie costumes.

The pictures and details are amazing especially for someone who loves the glitz and glamour of the 'then' Hollywood. The woman was a designer legend!
