Grandmothers Need Advice, Too!, September 12, 2005
This review is from: Just Me: What Your Child Wants You to Know About Parenting (Paperback)
After raising two kids of my own, I now provide daycare for my two granddaughters, ages 7 and 3. My eldest daughter sent Just Me to her sister as a gift. I decided to skim through it and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to read. In fact, I read it cover to cover that afternoon before my daughter arrived home from work to pick up the kids. I told her that Grandma learned a few new things that day and she would, too! What a great book! Some of my favorite tips were about remembering how to giggle and be silly, why it's important to allow children to channel their natural talents, and how to gauge a child's mood by looking at images they've drawn. I now talk just above a whisper instead of using a loud tone when faced with disobedience; it difuses the situation and helps me teach the reason behind the discipline. This tip really works! I highly recommend this book to other parents, grandparents, and caregivers - wish I'd had it when my girls were children!

Just Great!, May 26, 2005
This review is from: Just Me: What Your Child Wants You to Know About Parenting (Paperback)
I purchased this book several weeks ago, read it from cover to cover the first day, and have found myself picking it up repeatedly while I am waiting for my children at various activities. The concise, straightforward format makes it easily accessible for multitasking moms. Most importantly, reading advice written from the perspective of your child is invaluable. This book really encourages you to slow down and remember what it feels like to be a child. Already, I have found myself feeling much more patient, in tune and, frankly, grateful when interacting with my children (aged 7 and 10.) I highly recommend this book for both new parents and those who would like a "parenting refresher course."
