Book Description

April 2005
Your Child Would Like to Tell You a Thing or Two… About Parenting! You’ve studied the experts, listened to neighbors, and sought advice from friends. Now it’s time to hear from the ultimate source for parenting advice. Just Me: What Your Child Wants YOU To Know About Parenting, by just jackie, offers insightful and inspirational parenting advice from a child’s perspective. “I was tired of reading the same parenting advice over and over and frustrated that parents seem to be struggling more than ever with raising families,” just jackie explains. “So I allowed my inner child to find the right words to help adults really see and hear each child.” Endearing illustrations from students at The Post Oak School bring the child’s spirit alive throughout the pages. This little book is the perfect parental primer for a life of love, laughter and learning with your child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grandmothers Need Advice, Too!, September 12, 2005
By
Nonnie (Bradford, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Just Me: What Your Child Wants You to Know About Parenting (Paperback)
After raising two kids of my own, I now provide daycare for my two granddaughters, ages 7 and 3. My eldest daughter sent Just Me to her sister as a gift. I decided to skim through it and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to read. In fact, I read it cover to cover that afternoon before my daughter arrived home from work to pick up the kids. I told her that Grandma learned a few new things that day and she would, too! What a great book!

Some of my favorite tips were about remembering how to giggle and be silly, why it's important to allow children to channel their natural talents, and how to gauge a child's mood by looking at images they've drawn. I now talk just above a whisper instead of using a loud tone when faced with disobedience; it difuses the situation and helps me teach the reason behind the discipline. This tip really works!

I highly recommend this book to other parents, grandparents, and caregivers - wish I'd had it when my girls were children!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Great!, May 26, 2005
This review is from: Just Me: What Your Child Wants You to Know About Parenting (Paperback)
I purchased this book several weeks ago, read it from cover to cover the first day, and have found myself picking it up repeatedly while I am waiting for my children at various activities. The concise, straightforward format makes it easily accessible for multitasking moms.

Most importantly, reading advice written from the perspective of your child is invaluable. This book really encourages you to slow down and remember what it feels like to be a child. Already, I have found myself feeling much more patient, in tune and, frankly, grateful when interacting with my children (aged 7 and 10.)

I highly recommend this book for both new parents and those who would like a "parenting refresher course."

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BOOK ON PARENTING TODAY!, August 13, 2005
This review is from: Just Me: What Your Child Wants You to Know About Parenting (Paperback)
"Despite what the experts extol, critical life skills come from role modeling with a child's primary mentor is a mother or father. With Just Jackie's superb book, Just Me, we get to hear the voices of our children on what they need and want from parents. This simple straight-forward approach to listening to our kids is what the world needs now. If you want to be a successful parent, buy Just Me. Your children will thank you.
