Anyone who has heard Sam Hazo recite poetry cannot help but be impressed. He has a terrific memory for poetry -- his own as well as others' -- and his resonant baritone voice, perfect timing, and impeccable poise make for one of the best performances around. In the poems of JUST ONCE we hear Hazo's unmistakable voice speaking about the concerns closest to his heart: love of family, of country, of language and art. Hazo pulls no punches. Whether he's taking the U.S. Government to task for its absurd Mideast policies, or whether he's meditating on an Impressionist painting, Hazo speaks the truth and does so beautifully and convincingly.
