Book Description

Seduction and sex can be pretty funny when both sides play dirty!

I loved this book! If you haven't read JUST ONE LOOK, you're missing out on a great story. It's humorous, sexy to the max, and just plain entertaining. ~ Amazon Reviewer

What would you do if the gynecologist subbing for your regular doctor turned out to be your old high school crush? Successful psychologist Dr. Jennifer Monroe does what any normal, well-adjusted woman would do. She makes an excuse to send the doctor and nurse from the room, dives into her clothes, and flees!

Unfortunately, her running away makes conscientious Dr. Matt Penrose conclude she has some kind of sexual hangup. For her health, he's determined to refer her to another doctor, but she refuses to take his calls. He's determined to talk to her so he can suggest counseling for what he thinks are emotional problems.

Jennifer plans to never see him again. Dallas is a big city. What are the odds that she'll ever run into him? Even money when Fate lends a hand.

When Jennifer and Matt meet at a charity gala, he earnestly urges her to seek professional help. Jennifer is incensed that he thinks she's some frigid old maid--and that he doesn't remember her. All the old high school resentment floods back, fueling her determination to teach him a lesson he won't soon forget. You know what they say about payback!

Kids play doctor, but these doctors play seduction games, and they're playing for keeps. Will Matt recognize Jennifer? Will Jennifer lure him into her bed? This payback is smoking hot!

5.0 out of 5 stars Breezy, Fun Read April 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Jennifer Monroe's regular ob-gyn is out of the office and she's about to be seen by the new guy - but when she realizes that it's her high school crush, the black-haired blue-eyed guy king of Lake Grayson High School, back home in Michigan, the guy who humiliated her so many years before, she flees without a pelvic examination.

Romance novels are formulaic, of course. He loves her, and she loves him, but her insecurities drive her crazy until the last chapter, when she suddenly realizes that there's really no problem after all. Despite that, this novel manages to replace the angst with humor and spirit into the formula, resulting in the kind of fun read that made "Coffee, Tea, or Me?" so popular back in the 1960s.

The cost of a book these days is the time you invest in reading it, time you can never get back. I thought this to be time well spent. Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Payback is smoking' hot indeed! April 20, 2011

And in Joan Reeves' JUST ONE LOOK, it's funny as hell, too.

We all have a memory of that special someone in high school, the one who turned us into knots and ultimately broke our hearts. For psychologist Jennifer Monroe, that memory comes in the drop-dead-gorgeous package of gynecologist Dr. Matt Penrose. But her unexpected encounter with the good doctor, 15 years after they broke up, is the stuff nightmares are made of. There's a last minute doctor substitution at the office where Jennifer goes for her yearly exam, and unbeknownst to her, she lands on Dr. Penrose's examination table. Jennifer panics--as any self-respecting woman would--and from there it's a comedic slide into a battle of wills with the outcome anyone's guess.

I loved this book! If you haven't read JUST ONE LOOK, you're missing out on a great story. It's humorous, sexy to the max, and just plain entertaining. I read it on a blah afternoon, and it was an instant day brightener. I'm now going to look up Joan Reeves' backlist. If this is an example of the type of story she tells, I want to get every one of them!

5.0 out of 5 stars A sexy romp that will make you laugh outloud! March 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Joan Reeves knows how to tell a sexy, totally tit-for-tat, love story. You'll laugh out loud over Dr. Jen's antics and retribution for the handsome Dr. Matt Penrose.

Don't we all have some high school memories that are never forgotten. But Jen certainly knows how to create new memories with Matt.

The writing is fun, crisp and the dialogue sexy. Here's a story and characters that will linger long after the book is fact, you'll read it again and again. I know I did!

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice try but no... May 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really wanted to like this book. I tried but it just fell flat for me. I am the type of person who hates to not finish a book no matter how bad it may be, but I stopped about halfway through. Spoilers coming!!!

*I get annoyed when people play silly games.I forgave her for the first one, but had to stop reading after the next one. Both played stupid little revenge games that left me not liking anyone. Those games make neither one likeable. In addition, we don't really get to get to know them very well. She seems boring and uninteresting, yet he wants her and we never get to know why (at least in the half that I read). I always like my novels to be believable, yet this one was just silly.

*I think the writer has decent skills, but she isn't very authentic. I didn't feel the connection from Jennifer and Matt. How is she so different from other women? Don't just write it down, make me believe it. Matt falls for her once he sees her body. Really, that's it? Make me feel their spark, because just saying they felt one is not good enough.

*I am still confused as to what the plot actually was for this story. It jumped all over. She's nervous from seeing him again; She gets mad; She wants revenge; She doesn't want revenge; He wants revenge. There is too much going on and no focus.

*She was a nervous wreck when she saw him again after all those years and then within 5 minutes, she is a tempress. She hates her breasts, yet uses them to her advantage to seduce. Her friend gives her a hard time for being too conservative, then she has a hot black mini and now she is confident. There is no transition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Entertaining December 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Totally hilarious for me. What are the odds of going for an annual GYN exam and finding out that the MD covering her regular physician was her high school crush, who doesn't even recognize her 15 years later. Of course, she promptly dismounts from the stirrups, flees in a panic leaving the good doctor completely baffled, but fate would have them meeting yet again. So he sets out to cure what he perceives as frigidity. I couldn't stop laughing.

This book is entertaining from the start. Even on parts when I really didn't think it was believable I find myself with a smile in the face. This book is perfect for when you just want to read something that would make you laugh and relax. I recommend it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay read June 11, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Jennifer is waiting to see her trusted woman doctor, but instead a male doctor walks into her room. Turns out he's not just any man. He's Jennifer's old high school crush. A man whom she's never really gotten over. Jennifer finds a way to scurry out of the room and plans to never see him again. Unsure why the female disappeared, Matt is determined to get the patient back. Eventually the two of them run into each other and the games begin. Since Matt didn't recognize Jennifer from his past, she determined to make him pay for spreading rumors about her when they were younger. Once Matt figures out who she is, he's determined to give her some pay back for the game she's been playing with him.

The book was okay. The game the two of them played with each other went on and on and nothing seemed to be happening. Matt was a very sexy, smart man and was sweet. Jennifer was a sexy woman who was independent and smart. The characters were okay, had some witty dialogue and good chemistry, but towards the end things turned into very childish play. The things Jennifer was mad about seemed very ridiculous after so much time had passed since high school and Matt had explained what happened. Then all the sudden everything was great with them and there wasn't much in between the arguing and the making up. It wasn't a horrible read, but could have been better.
