5.0 out of 5 stars Just One Of The Best , And Also One Of His Most Under-Rated, July 26, 2000
This review is from: Just One Love (Audio CD)
Of the many albums this timeless troubadour has released , and it must be over one hundred , then this must surely be the most under-rated .

Coming , sandwiched , between the acclaimed " Across The Borderline " and hugely successful " Teatro " I find this both extremely strange , and very difficult to comprehend .

I think this is one of Willie Nelsons best offerings , the production , the mix , the harmonies , the musical accompaniments , musical arrangements and background vocals could not be bettered in any way , shape or form .

From the excellent opening and title track , written by Kimmie Rhodes , who also provides vocals throughout the album , the song and then the album grips totally and deserves attention .

I thought John Prine's version of Floyd Tillmans composition " This Cold,Cold War Wtith You " could not be bettered , but Willie Nelson's rendition here , achieves that with his interpretation , in his own inimitable style . Tillmans other composition on the album " Each Night At Nine " made you want to hum along , had you foot-tapping , smiling , and gave a happy , all encompassing- feeling from the first time time you heard it .

I like the humour on show within the album from the well known " Smoke Smoke Smoke That Cigarette " to the footstomping " Eight More Miles to Louiseville " . There is certainly a wide selection of types of songs on this album , and all are expertly performed by Willie Nelson , and I felt a couple of them , namely , "Better Left Forgotten " and " It's A Sin " were so good I felt they had been written especially for him . He shows his adaptability further with the jaunty " Bonaparte's Retreat " which he performs , I am sure , with a big smile on his face .

Yes , definately something for everyone on a most enjoyable album which deserves much more credit than it has recieved so far . If you like and enjoy any Willie Nelson album, the I assure you , this will satisfy your taste...you will not be dissappointed .

If you are keen to try Willie Nelson , but not quite sure where to start , then try this ( or "Across The Borderline )---like the fans I am sure you will thouroughly enjoy this exceptional album by a master of his craft .

5.0 out of 5 stars Just One Great Song After Another, January 29, 2000

I had never heard of this CD, but will always take a chance on anything that Willie Nelson records. This CD is a gem! I particularly liked the title song, Just One Love, as well as Each Night at Nine, and I Just Drove By. Eight More Miles From Louisville with Grandpa Jones was an unexpected (and delightful) bonus. The harmony on Just One Love, and I Just Drove By was exceptional. I loved this CD because it's probably the only opportunity I'll ever have to harmonize with Willie! :) Mary McG

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid album, May 2, 2009

Only a few reviews for this? It's a good album of covers. It begins with Willie and Kimmie Rhodes and ends with Willie and Grandpa Jones. There are slow songs, funny songs, a romp or two. The highlight for me is Bonaparte's Retreat and Alabam back to back, with some nice guitar picking mixed in.

Downsides? It's not a profound album. At times it seems hashed together a bit, possibly coming from several different sessions. Even the vocals on Smoke, Smoke sound jarringly loud and clear compared to the rest of the songs. Still, these are minor criticisms in what is a nice work of traditional country.
