Wait.. There IS another way,
This review is from: Just No Other Way (Audio CD)
Okay, people, giving CoCo 1/5 stars is pretty harsh. I mean, hello, this Asian pop artist is more talented in her thumb than Britney Spears or Mandy Moore. <Jessica Simpson and Christina Aguilera give CoCo a run for her money, especially since Jessica Simpson's album might beat out CoCo's record in Taiwan! Ack!> Anyways, CoCo has had such a life. Originally, she only became a singer to pay off damages to her mom's car she made. Then, well, a new singer was born. CoCo has already released 20 +/- albums in Asian, including 2 English albums <not including Just No Other Way>. Her voice is beautiful in my opinion. Okay, she is no Whitney or Mariah, but to say she is worse than Britney Spears? Um.. NO. If you listen to "Before I Fall In Love" and any of these songs <well, none after "All Tied Up In You">, you will see CoCo actually displays some talent. She can belt it out, and unlike Jessica Simpson, she can sing without wailing and making my ears bleed! On Just No Other Way, CoCo had no choice in the songs so don't be surprised that her producers got her to sing <with her approval> such Americanized tracks. Hey, many of the tracks on Just No Other Way are very good, especially "Before I Fall In Love" and "All Tied Up In You" and "Wherever You Go" <despite how 80's this song sounds>. As for "Don't You Want My Love" and so on after that, the album goes downhill. But all before that, the songs are memorable and addictive. If CoCo Lee couldn't get you excited, hopefully J-pop singer Mai Kuraki, whose 1st English album will be out this summer, can. But people, remember this: Can you belt it out like CoCo does? If you want to give Miss Lee another chance, check out her Asian albums, especially CoCo Lee: Best of My Love <compilation> and "Sunny Day".

PLAYA HATERS STEP!,

This review is from: Just No Other Way (Audio CD)
Hey everybody, I am writing this review as an Asian American in California. I personally feel that CoCo has a great voice, if you heard her Concert CD, her covers of Killing Me Softly, Careless Whisper, and River Deep Mountain High show her incredible vocal range. Her voice is not exactly like Whitney Houston's, Mariah Carey's, Christina Aguilera's, or Britney Spears', but guess what, it's because she's chinese and an Asian voice WILL differ slightly. CoCo's voice is beautiful whether in Cantonese, Mandarin, or English and if you don't think so, keep your thoughts to yourself. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. I bet some of you fools reading this right now would be pissed if i wrote that Britney Spears is a one hit wonder or that Mariah Carey is a "hip-hop" sell out. Those are just some disparaging comments YOU would make. Well, I like all those artists, because they make entertaining music, which is what it's all about. Coco demonstrates that talent on a Jennifer Lopezesque Do You Want My Love. She has the voice of Aaliyah on All Tied Up In You, does a better job than Mary Griffin (who by the way is African American) on Just No Other Way, and introduces a new sound to all of us on Before I Fall In Love. For all you Coco fans reading this out there, I hope you are writing radio stations and MTV/TRL to make yourselves heard. Let's get airplay for CoCo on all the majors so the rest of America will soon love her. Northern CA Z95.7 106 KMEL Wild 949 102.5 KDON K101 Southern CA 92.3 The Beat Power 106 Star 98.7 KIIS 102.7 NEW YORK 103.7 WKTU Hot 97 any other place you guys can think of, show your love! Let 2000 be the year of the Asian Invasion, so America can be introduced to not only hot Latin sounds, African American rhythym and beats, but Asian artistry as well. Go and buy CoCo Lee's Just No Other Way--- Sony- 550 Music.

Just No Other Way,

I personally think Coco Lee has done an extrodinary job on this debut English album of hers. I feel this way and am Caucasian so I do hope people will stop insisting only Asians can like an Asian artiste trying to make it in America. Each song sounds completely different from the other and showcases a different aspect her tremendous talent. My favourite track has got to be the title track - Just No Other Way. Lyrics and melody are great!

Her album is NOT BAD at all and people are giving her ONE STAR? Come on people, this is the only Asian singer coming out in America and you people don't even care? What if she doesn't make it? I don't think another Asian singer is coming up anytime soon....As for the CD itself, there are some great songs in there that I like. I haven't seen anyone put down "Can't Get Over" (feat. Kelly Price). That one is good among many others. Her voice is very cute and I think it is nothing like Mariah Carey's higher pitched voice. I love both CoCo Lee and Mariah Carey and I KNOW there is no ReAL similarites between the two (except maybe some head shots of CoCo looks like Mariah...like the one that is the CD cover--the curly hair?). N-E-WAY, If you like the CD even a just a LITTLE BIT....BUY IT! because you are supporting a LARGER CAUSE where $15 isn't going to be much help to you, but combined with everyone else, could change the path for future and aspiring Asian singers to come. Let's hope CoCo Lee is a HUGE success!

Brilliant Talent!,
This review is from: Just No Other Way (Audio CD)
I first was introduced to Coco when I watched one of my favorite movies for the first time-It was Crouching tiger and i heard her song 'A Love Before Time' in English, I thought 'Wow' who's this! Then i found out about her and heard she sang for Mulan which is another fav movie of mine. I loved Aguilera's Reflections, but was blown anway when i heard Coco's i Mean wow! I was looking to be blown away by this cd, and sadly wasn't. More like a TYPHOON! this album is wonderful and even if you don't like it at first, keep playing it, it'll grow on you. My fav songs are 'Cant get over' (with Ms Kelly Price), 'Crazy Ridiculous', 'Before I fall in love' and 'Can we talk about it'I think in the last track noted above, she got it spot on, she's an RnB chick and on some other songs i think that concept was kinda lost but its okay. Another thing which is sad, is that people write her off because she's Asian. She's out there representing for the Asian kids out there, showing it can be done and if she wants it bad enough-she'll get it. Go Coco!

Coco deserves more attention, not because she is an Asian, it's because she is as good as Christina, Britney, Jessica etc. If they should get the attention, so is Coco. Now, where are the RealAudio samples!

Not great, but GOOD!,

Coco (I love the name by the way!) might not be a superstar but you can not deny that she has a great voice (but it has NOTHING to do with that she was raised in the states!) All the songs are written by non-Chinese and I think Coco did a good job on expressing these songs. And who says that she is trying to copy Mariah Carey? Just because she sounds like and sings like Mariah Carey? Be generous with this Asian singer who is just trying to get into the international market. For me this album is worth to try. Coco surprised me with this album but at the same time, she didn't. She's got a great voice and she knows how to sing since her first (Chinese) album was released in Taiwan.

Not known here in Holland, but certainly worth buying!,

I've come across Coco when I was looking for music by Julio Iglesias on the net. Listened to a duet of them and was astonished by her voice. I did not know who she was so I searched the net and found some Chinese songs of her. A realy great voice (and a nice looking girl too :) ) Now I came across her first English CD and I bought it imediatly. I must say that she can do mutch better then this because althoug I do not understand Chinese, I like some of her Chinese songs more (Stay with me tonight etc.) but this is her first English CD and I think we will here more of her soon. I live in the Netherlands and there is almost no way to find any cd's of Coco here. I hope she makes it all over the world.

Judge Her By The Way She Is,

It is unfortunate to see so many people are making comparisons with no ground. Many reviews are suggesting that CoCo Lee is either trying to be or not as good as Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, even Celion Dion and so on. But the fact is that she's just starting, there's no way she could be totally different because most of us don't like to hear anything other than mainstream. Yes, at times she does sound a little like Mariah or all of the above. But who could deny that at one point, Mariah sounded like Whitney; Christina sounded like Britney; Celion sounded like Barbara Streisand ? I personally don't know and don't care how good she is in Asia, all I know is people are pumping up their expectations when it comes to the time to judge her, while lowering their expectations for people like Christina and Britney. Be fair, give CoCo some credits !
