5.0 out of 5 stars Required Reading for every President, June 27, 2002
By
This review is from: Just Peacemaking: Transforming Initiatives for Justice and Peace (Paperback)
This should be on the coffee table, magazine rack, bookshelf, and waiting room of every serious national leader. Conscientious voters should also read this in order to understand what it takes to make political peace in the world. But Stassen is not merely political, he's actually biblical first of all. He exegetes like a biblical scholar while making applications which only a leading Christian ethicist like he could. Just peacemaking shows that "just war theory" can lead to peace while restraining war, and that passifism is an extremely ACTIVE practice. EXCELLENT!

I originally encountered this book while writing a paper for a Seminary class. It served as my first contact with Glen Stassen's work, and it changed my views on peacemaking forever. This book will lead you to positive actions for peacemaking, a wonderful alternative to the more passive approaches to peace that are often proposed in our world. Every library should have a copy, along with other offerings by Glen Stassen. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great practicle application of the Sermon of the Mount., April 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Just Peacemaking: Transforming Initiatives for Justice and Peace (Paperback)
Stasson does an incredible job in his ability to interpret and apply the teaching of Jesus to every day life. While often the sermon on the mount is ignored in Christian teaching and literature because so many people find it hard to understand or live up to, Stasson shows how Jesus teachings don't trap people, but rather set them free to break away from the patterns of sin and pain.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Insight and History, April 21, 2009
This review is from: Just Peacemaking: Transforming Initiatives for Justice and Peace (Paperback)
Glen Stassen's Just Peacemaking does a great job of introducing you to the peacemaking movement and idealogy. Through first hand experience and research Glen gives us the history of this important social movement. While it can at times be a little academic it is definitely worth picking up and reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book for peacemakers, November 11, 2008

This review is from: Just Peacemaking: Transforming Initiatives for Justice and Peace (Paperback)
Dr. Stassen's book is a careful, reasoned cross between interpretation of the Sermon on the Mount and how the principles there are applied. Although a bit dated (published in 1992), Stassen deals with the Fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War. He uses specific examples from the history of Europe and America in the 1980's to demonstrate that the people of the world do not have to settle for perpetual war and conflict; rather, there are practical steps we can take to seek peace with one another.
