Just is Just Right, July 16, 2000

The group Trio 1790 is the "dernier mot" in early piano trio literature. Nobody does it better. These works by Just, wonderfully melodic and rhythmically vivacious, never deserved to moulder in some archive. Trio 1790 has taken them out, dusted them off, and performed them in exactly the spirit for which they were conceived. The playing is imaginative and very energetic -- no lolling about in a Rococo salon here, these people mean business. The result: a peformance that is exciting, grabs your attention and makes you sit on the edge of your seat to find out what comes next. Anyone interested in early piano trio literature on period instruments should have this recording. No doubt about it.
