My 7 year old son loves for us to share in the reading of the occassional play that we come across. We had looked and looked for a book of plays and when I found this, I thought, "What the heck? I'll try it." My son ran through the house shreiking with joy when he opened the package and we ended up staying up 'til 2am reading them all over and over and over. The plays average two or three pages and are in big type with nifty pictures that are not intimidating. Some are of 2 characters and some are for many--not all are specifically sexed-so any reader can fill a part in a group. With my son, he takes all "boy" parts and I get the rest. If there is no designation to sex, we divide it right down the middle. It has been pure joy to hear my son expressing his reading skills with this book. For a new and/or timid reader, this could be just right. (BTW--My son is neither, he just loves plays--if your child does too, this is perfect.)

My sons are twins and one is a strong reader. The other twin feels that he is not a strong reader but this book has helped to increase his confidence. It helps that there is a variety of difficulty levels in the short plays and also that we can each take different roles. Also the reading is only a few sentences at a time so it's a good way for an early reader to get started.

This book is great for beginning readers! I will be using it in my first grade classroom at the beginning of the year.

This book was a big disappointment for me. I got it for my small reading group of first graders to do reader's theater. I will say there is ONE play out of 25 that is engaging and funny and that is "Fish School". The rest lack flavor and wouldn't inspire a love of reading or theater in a young child in my opinion. I'm disappointed because I'm on a budget and I bought the wrong thing. Now I need to try to find something else. Also, if you read the Amazon Product Description, it says this book is for 9 to 11 year olds! Believe me, no 9 to 11 year old is going to like these plays. That is probably a misprint, however, as the book is clearly labeled K-1.

It's a fun book and I've tried one play with my students. Many of them don't speak English so it's good for them to practice their fluency by practicing their lines. Some of the plays seemed very advanced for an emergent reader level, but they might just work out. Really a fun book!

Didn't really interest my son enough. Will keep trying though bc I love the concept. Have to say that my son is dyslexic and it takes a lot to get him to read, so maybe this was not the right approach for him specifically.
