Book Description

In super-nurse Jessica Bradford’s eyes no man measures up to Dr. Ben Torres the hero of the ER… until he punches an obstinate patient in the face. Now she’s concerned not only for the secret romantic dreams she’s been harboring, but also for her job. Their boss has put Jessica in charge of keeping Ben out of trouble so that his temporary suspension doesn’t turn into a permanent condition. The real problem is that trouble is exactly what Ben is trying to get into… and when she’s with him Jessica can’t seem to remember why that’s a bad thing.

About the Author

Erin Nicholas started writing as soon as she realized that books were actually created by people versus just appearing in those magical places called “libraries” and “bookstores”. She started writing romance as soon as she realized that happily ever after was real and that she could make the guys in her stories do whatever she wanted. She started writing sexy contemporary romances when she realized her mother actually did know the word “sex” and wouldn’t die if her daughter wrote about it. This is Erin’s second published title.

Fun sexy contemporary from Erin Nicholas. The heroine, Jessica, has been walking the straight and narrow ever since her father died when she was twenty, leaving her to raise her younger brother and sister. She's an emergency room nurse and oozes responsibility, so she's the first one the hospital administration chooses to babysit hottie Dr. Ben Torres, who's just put the hospital at risk for a huge lawsuit by punching out a patient. Since Jess has been crushing on Ben for a while she's more than happy to comply. Until she realizes that formerly upstanding Ben is hell bent on tossing aside his respectability and being very, very bad. With her!

JUST RIGHT was a funny, sexy, entertaining read that could have veered off into preachy territory, but fortunately never did. With a colorful cast of characters including Jessica's siblings, the local paramedics and the staff of St. Anthony's Hospital, Nicholas has the great beginning to a series here.

Just Right is Book #1 in the Bradfords series which is about three siblings (Jessica, Sam and Sara). I first read Book #3 (Just My Type which is Sara's story) because I had no idea it was part of a series. I loved Erin Nicholas' writing and humour so much that I immediately bought Book #1 and #2 and I knew that I would be in for a treat. And I was not disappointed!

Just Right is Jessica's story: she is the eldest sibling, who was once a rebellious teenager but who stepped up and raised her brother and sister after their father died when she was just around 20. Since then Jessica changed her ways and became the always reliable, serious and responsible older sister and perfect nurse. Her Saturday nights are spent either watching the TV, scrubbing her bathroom or washing laundry, until her office crush forsakes the respectable role of a responsible take charge doctor and spends his days in bars getting drunk and not having a care in the world.

Ben is the star surgeon at the clinic, however he feels his life is not satisfying anymore. His frustration and anger mounts every time when he sees a patient he cared for not doing their part in the recovery. Then one day he explodes when a man he saved a couple of weeks ago has a DUI accident and causes the death of a lot of innocent people. Ben gets suspended for some time after punching the guy, to cool off as his superiors say, but Ben doesn't have any intention to cool off. He's had it with the ER and the stupid careless patients and all the stress and worrying which go with being a doctor. So he goes on a self-destruction or should we say college boy rampage: he gets drunk, plays pool and flirts with women. Enters Jessica, whom her brother (who is also Ben's friend) asked to babysit Ben and make sure he doesn't get in trouble.

I actually did enjoy the story of Ben and Jessica. I liked Jessica's family and am interested in reading the rest of the series. But I found myself getting both bored at points and confused. The constant inner monologue from Jessica worrying about her past, and of Ben remembering the pain of returning from Africa, got to be repetitive with nothing new to offer. I started to find them both to be a little whiny. I liked their stories, but was disappointed I had to wait so long in the book to find them out. I felt the author could have done more with them to develop the characters earlier on.

Also some of the plot I found confusing and hard to follow especially when it came to the passing of days - how long did the story really last? I couldn't figure out when a day ended and another began especially with the hectic work schedule of ER personnel thrown in. And also the sex scenes were really hot sometimes, and then so vague other times that I didn't even realize they had actual sex. I never even realized Jessica DID have an orgasm until it was mentioned that she had had two already. There was a lot of build up and not much **climax**. I don't need graphic scenes, but just a little more description of what had actually just happened would have been nice.

Overall, a nice simple read, just don't expect to be swept away.

Cute story if you're willing to completely suspend your logic and common sense for a few hours.
Discouraged by his medical practice after realizing that all his efforts can not save the world, Ben Torres, a trauma surgeon, punches a patient and is suspended from ER.
His friends and his boss, charge Jessica Bradford, the ER main nurse, to babysit Ben, stop him from drinking and get him back to work as soon as possible.
Jessica, an ex wild girl, tries her best to put Ben back on track.
I can't believe that anyone with a six-month experience in the medical field would act as this surgeon. Bad things happen all the time and the ER departments are the first in line to see the effects of human stupidity. Ditto for Jessica, who takes the whole of the book to see Ben as a normal person, with flaws and qualities and not a superhero.
For Ben to just want to have fun (i.e drinking, having sex and hold a job with little responsibilities) is childish. For Jessica to dress up with cowboy boots, short skirts and clinging tops to get his attention is demeaning. For them both to (almost) have sex in public places, well, at this point, their actions make so little sense it works with the rest of the plot.
This story would have worked better if the characters were teenagers and not the mature adults they are supposed to be.
