As always, a mixed bag,

These Sire samplers are always a mixed bag. There'll be something brilliant, something you absolutely hate, and something you can't get anywhere else. The idea, of course, was that you'd pick them up for the artists you were familiar with -- Depeche Mode, Morrisey, Ice-T -- and get turned on to, say, Ofra Haza or Danielle Dax. The real standout here is John Wesley Harding's hilarious (and eerily prophetic) "When the Beatles Hit America," a catchy little talking-blues number about a 1990s Beatles reunion.

I bought this CD just because of track 13. This song is a nice extended version of "Maybe for Sure", originally released in Deborah Harris album "Def, Dumb and Blonde".
Maybe for Sure is a reworked version of "Angel's Song/Send Love Through" from the animated movie Rock & Rule. Rock & Rule soundtrack was never released and getting this CD was part of my personal quest of creating my own Rock & Rule music selection. Other CD's to get include Zombie Birdhouse (Iggy Pop) and Sex America (Cheap Trick). Other songs worth listening in "Just Say Da" include Personal Jesus, Star, When the Beatles Hit America, The Id Parade and November Spawned a Monster. |
