5.0 out of 5 stars A Surprise Gem
Trying to find new musicals, I recently stumbled on this production of "Just So". I must say, I was really impressed with this show. Every song is catchy and interesting. Few of the songs were really good on their own, without the context of the musical, but altogether, the show as a whole was what impressed me. I would really like to see a production of this someday.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some good songs, but doesn't have the wow factor I have come to expect!
I had high expectations of this musical, as I am a huge fan of Honk! And I'll admit, there are some pretty catchy numbers. I particularly like Just So and The Limpopo River. Of course, these numbers became reprised throughout the show with even more heightened melodies and fantastic harmonies. But overall, in a musical, I enjoy listening to the one song that just grabs...

I had high expectations of this musical, as I am a huge fan of Honk! And I'll admit, there are some pretty catchy numbers. I particularly like Just So and The Limpopo River. Of course, these numbers became reprised throughout the show with even more heightened melodies and fantastic harmonies. But overall, in a musical, I enjoy listening to the one song that just grabs you and leaves you almost breathless. Unfortunately on this level, 'Just So' fails to deliver. 'Wait a Bit' comes close but just when you think the note of notes will be sung, you are left hanging with an anti-climax. 'Leaps and Bounds' is a fun number but I'm not sure these two or three good numbers will be enough to capture audience attention.
If you have heard of Seussical, with the elephant and the bird, then you will alo recognise the amazing similarities with the 'Just So' Elephant and Bird relationship. And guess what, this bird can't fly for a time either!!
A "nice" musical, but not one I would rave about.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Whimsical Show from Styles and Drewe, March 14, 2010

I saw Honk at North Shore Music Theater before many in the states knew what a wonderful show it was. Gavin Creel played the duckling and was surrounded by a marvelous cast. Imagine my delight when NSMT announced another Styles Drewe show for the following season. It was Just So. I enjoyed it, but it was not as of a piece as Honk was. They started this one, and Honk came while it was still gestating. A couple of major productions later, they have refined the work and it is another enjoyable show. Its cut from the same whimsical cloth as Honk, so if you like that one, you will like this one as well. PLEASE DO NOT JUDGE HONK from the American Cast album, the cast is just so so, the English cast is ever so much better. The cast for Just So is excellent, led by John Barrowman, who in truth is underused but still makes a nice contribution. The rest of the cast is uniformly excellent and the fun of the piece comes through. Now, I would like to see a professional production of this again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just So wonderful!, March 16, 2007

I recently saw a local production of "Just So", performed by middle school students. Loved the show so much, it prompted me to get the CD. The soundtrack and the show tell great stories based on Rudyard Kipling's "Just So Stories" -- such as how the zebra got its stripes, the rhino got baggy skin, and the kangaroo got its bounce. Almost every song is a winner. I have been listening to it repeatedly for weeks straight, and I'm still as anxious to put it on as when I first got it. My kids have asked to hear it again and again, and we have all memorized the songs. "Just So", "Living on this Island", "We Want to Take the Ladies Out", and "The Parsee Cake Walk" are favorites. If you have the opportunity to see the show, it will really bring the soundtrack to life. This one is a keeper!
