Book Description

How did the camel get his hump? Why won't cats do as they are told? How did an inquisitive little elephant change the lives of elephants everywhere? Kipling's imagined answers to such questions draw on the beast fables of India, and they are full of jokes, subtexts, and exotic references. This fully illustrated edition of this classic includes two extra stories and Kipling's own explanation of the title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for adults, May 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This new edition of Just So Stories is fantastic! One note: this edition is the published version of Kipling's original stories, word for word. Older editions were edited for certain words now considered offensive, particularly racial terms. This new edition, however, includes such words in an effort to protect Kipling's original syntax, a fact which customers planning on buying for younger children should consider. That being said, for adult readers this is a fantastic edition that includes Kipling's orginal drawings and captions as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good eBook - but no clickable table of contents., March 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a fine eBook. It has the illustrations from the original, and a somewhat lengthy but interesting introduction about Kipling. However, IT DOES NOT HAVE A CLICKABLE TABLE OF CONTENTS, so you have to page through the book to find each story. I created bookmarks at the start of each story, so that I have my own ToC, but really - it is annoying to buy a book of short stories and find that there is no way to easily access each story. That is the reason for the low rating. Now that I've done the work to organize, I'm quite pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars stories for children, physical book - not so muc, September 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I loved stories such as, "How the Camel Got His Hump" while I was a growing up. I was so excited to introduce these to my 2 year old son as a new reading tradition (my mother and I read often). This book is annotated and illustrated and, as mentioned in reviews prior, word for word the stories (some words may be offensive but I read all stories/books before I read them to my son and I can probably think of other words in place of these or just omit them all together).

These stories are cute, fun and answer (humorously - not literally) some of the most wild questions a child might have about animals and nature.

It is a paperback (I wish it was board) so my son won't be able to be unsupervised with it for until he can control his desire to "destroy, rebuild, destroy!" :D I look forward to many nights of adventures with these awesome tales and to hopefully, hand them down, yet again.
