Book Description

June 1, 2011
Are you tired of having problems? Want them to stop? Wish you could transform yourself as a person with just two trips to the bathroom?

With advice like this, Just Stop Having Problems, Stupid! brilliantly satirizes self-help books in the wise and weird voice of "Dr. Matt", the self-proclaimed "most famous fake doctor of our time".

In what fans are calling "the best self-help book ever", Dr. Matt delivers the same witty personality that fans have come to know from his blog and podcast, and examines the nature of personal problems and the self-help books that attempt to solve them. Yet, somehow, Just Stop Having Problems, Stupid! manages to contain actual wisdom. It's hilarious and clever, both at the same time.

As Dr. Matt says, one copy of the book may not be enough. After all, you may have more than one bathroom.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Folks, my publicist told me that I can apparently say a little bit about myself here on the Amazon.  I assumed that everyone knew me well enough from my amazingly popular blog and podcast, but apparently that's not the case.

I could tell you all about how I moved from Texas to Canada and started handing out advice like it was free (which, of course, it wasn't, as I charge $300/hour).  But, really, because you came to this page, here's all you need to know:
  1. I will absolutely transform your life with this book.
  2. You will be able to stop having all problems, forever.
  3. I sometimes make wildly unsubstantiated claims.
I hope you enjoy this book!  Look me up on the Internets if you have any questions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop the stupid epidemic! January 4, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
There are few really useful books out there nowadays. 'Just Stop Having Problems Stupid' is the best handbook I've come across in a long, long time.

I heard about this book many times, though never had the opportunity to read it until it was passed to me in a christmas gift exchange game. I tried to hawk it for the yo-yo, but Destiny stepped in and said this was mine to keep. Of course Destiny got the first season of the Office in her gift exchange, but I'm sure she thought this was better suited for me. And you know what? She was right.

Dr. Matt took me to the stupid parts, the real parts and the Russell Crowe parts of myself that I didn't realize were being affected by my mediocre decision making. Everytime I walk out the door, I ask myself, am I going to just stop having problems, or just keep having problems? Answer is so simple, its stupid.

I highly recommend this book as a gift, as a guide, as a lifestyle choice. And its only like, 50 pages so you can read it on the loo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Problem Free for 3 Months - Thanks Dr. Matt! January 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
There isn't a lot I know in this world...

I know cheese is delicious, I know Canada is cold, and I know I had problems.

That was until a passing stranger handed me this book, without saying a word, but clearly skipping down the street. Intrigued, I rushed home and began to read.

Little did I know I was about to indulge in possibly the most useful piece of literature since the Da Vinci Code.

Dr. Matt's "Just Stop having Problems, Stupid", is the one resource that every modern person needs. His expertise on the practice of "Life" provides insight into the causes of problems, and why they're stupid. Can it be as simple as stopping? Yes. It can be. Wait. No. It IS.

I have since read this piece 87 times, and am always discovering new things about myself. Sometimes the self discoveries seem separate from the material, such as the mole on my foot, but I feel they are correlated none the less.

If you are human, or non-human but intelligent enough to read this review, you MUST have this book. A fulfilled life cannot be achieved without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wacky! May 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Just Stop Having Problems, Stupid! is definitely the funniest self-help book I've ever read. Dr. Matt's circular logic is hard to argue with and makes as much sense as most psychobabble. His dislike of metaphors and his delusions of being Russell Crowe only add to the hilarity. Great fun and quick read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Witty, humourous, intelligent, fun, well-informed. February 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
But enough about me.

I really like this book. Anyone who has either studied psychology, as I have, or been to therapists should find a lot of things to laugh about. And I don't just mean the cover photo. There is actually useful advice in the book; some of it was not added by me with a pen. Dr Matt offers such useful suggestions as not allowing your fears to hold you back from moving forwards and not making problems worse than they really are. Or something like that. To be honest, I have not actually read the entire book, but I didn't want to let a lack of knowledge hold me back from writing a review. Many people study for years and still suffer from immense ignorance. Some of those people are not even psychologists.

Here is an except from the book, showing the fact that there is truly good advice in-between the humour:

"Here is the hypothesis: you can stop having problems just by deciding. Now, go out and test this hypothesis. And it must be tested on you because this is about your problems. We want a good amount of data, so you should test this over a year. During that time, decide you do not have the problems you think you do. And remember, deciding is a matter of action. So you must act as one who does not have the problems you think you do. In your case, sir, you believe you are incapable of being outgoing and social. Now that we have decided, you will go out and do things that outgoing, social people do."

This reflects some of the advice given by very successful life coaches, such as Tony Robbins, Michael Neill, Paul McKenna, and others, by envisioning a "successful you" and then doing those things that the successful you would potentially do.

Yes, I know that this is bathroom reading material but I found it more insightful than the "greatest" self help books out there. Dr. Matt (or whoever) uses humor and in your face logic to get his point across. I don't know if this book was intended to actually help people but it certainly helped me see the light. By the way, Russell Crowe is overrated. Kidding..

5.0 out of 5 stars "Just Stop Having Problems Stupid" April 15, 2011

Loved this book. I actually laughed out loud. It made me think, but it also gave me pause. Sometimes it doesn't take a, "Real Doctor," to see to the heart of the problem and make you feel better about yourself. Maybe just a rude awakening is all that is necessary. Thank you, "Dr." for all of your words of wisdom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Problems? What problems? September 12, 2012
By Kevril
Format:Paperback
When I first picked up this book I wasn't sure I would like it. Frankly, the mustacheod man on the cover reminded me of an unemployed circus clown that could no longer afford makeup to cover his hideous flaming torch juggling act accident. I am also afraid of circus clowns, and corded phones, so I scribbled all over the cover and went bought a cordless phone(No, I did not get this problem solving technique from the book). Then I started to read the collection of large, and small words he had assembled together upon the parchment to coherently convey his inner genius. After reading the first few chapters, I started going out of my way to cause problems just to see how easily I could solve them by using his simple one step program "Just Stop Having Problems Stupid". Whenever I felt a problem arising between me and a co-worker for example, I would just put my hand up and say "Excuse me for a moment." Then I would take a mental timeout and reaffirm out loud "Just stop having problems stupid! Just stop having problems stupid! Just stop having problems stupid!"....when I opened my eyes, the problem was usually staring at me silently, or walking away. Pretty soon, none of my co-workers even attempted to talk to me anymore. BANG!...PROBLEMS...SOLVED. I plan on using this technique at holiday parties with my problem riddled family and my bat shit crazy wife(especially during those special times when she is posessed by the 28 day demons). So, don't delay, run out and buy this book, or check it out at the library in the 'awesome' section. Soon, you too can put the teachings of Dr Mark...or Matt, sorry Mark, to use right away, or tommorow after a hearty breakfast full of fiber and vitamins.... Read more ›

1.0 out of 5 stars Really weird, but not in a good way
This book wasn't really poking fun at self help books.... it's not clever or satirical, it's just weird. I totally didn't get it. Someone might, but I didn't.
