Biography
Pastor WandaCheryl Henry-Jenkins says that writing is one of her passions. She prefera books that inspire and motivate better leaving in the face of an often dangerous and unsettling world. She is an ordained minster and writes from a Christian perspective and likes both, fiction and non-fiction, especially those considered self-help.
Pastor WandaCHeryl was born in Chicago, Illinois. She is the oldest of Wade and Juanita Henry's seven daughters and two sons. She met and married her sweetheart and lifemate, the Revernd Samuel L. Jenkins, Jr. They have a son, Joshua and a daughter, Jazmine, a daughter-in-law, Tiffaney, as well as a wonderful granddaughter, Sanaa. They have been married for 30 years.
For more than forty years, she has worked in health and Human services as a licensed practical nurse, educator, minister, and bereavement counselor and administrator. She has founded and developed programs to assist the bereaved, especially those in hospice and survivors of homicidal loss. "Just Us: Overcoming and Understanding Homicidal Loss and Grief" was Wanda's first published book. She followed it in 1999, with a companion guide "Hard Work: A Guided Journal for Survivors of Murder Victims".
For the extraordinary groundbreaking work she has done for families of homicide victims Wanda was awarded the Miss Clairol Take Charge Award, the National Association of Social Worker's "Public Citizen Award," the National Council of Negro Women", the Tribute to Black Women Community Leaders, and the University of Pennsylvania Black Health Conference Nursing Award.
Currently, Wanda is the Bereavement Services Manager of one of the largest hospices in the United States and has been published by this organization. Her titles: " Remember Momma: A Guided Workbook for Adolescent Motherless Daughters(2005); Remembering Mom: Writing to Reconnect to the Mother Within, (2008); and a Support Group Series Workbook.
She is also a presenter in several videos: At Death's Door, Paraclete Video, Beyond Death's Door, Paraclete Video, and Children Grieve Too, Centering Corporation.
Wanda was Guest Consultant on the Phil Donahue Show (ABC) Children Related to Homicide Victims: Family Focus (ABC) Families and Friends of Murder Victims, CNN Documentary: Counseling at the Morgue, and the Edie Huggins Show, Book Review: Just Us: Understanding and Overcoming Homicidal Loss and Grief (CBS). She was also a guest panelist at the Hospice of America Annual Bereavement Teleconference in 2009.
