Hey, Hey, It's the Monkees!,

Okay, okay! I know what everyone is thinking.....big deal. But considering that Micky was my first crush ever (I was 6 at the time), I love this video! It's a chance to see the guys again....ALL of them! I missed Mike in the 1980's tours. It's good to see him again with the rest of the guys. Even though they aren't 20-something anymore, I still think they are the best. In an age where music as sunk to new lows and MTV is almost unwatchable anymore, it's nice to see a video that I can enjoy. I loved Headquarters when it came out. I enjoyed listening to them play their music, and I love listening (and watching) them now! I'm only sorry that the Monkees didn't make it to my hometown to do a concert. I would have been front row center for it! Mike, Micky, Davy, and Pete.....don't ever listen to critics.....it's the fans that count! AND WE LOVE YOU!

I'm not a Monkee fan but this is fun,
By Sam T Wittas (MO) - See all my reviews

I happened to catch this on TV years ago. The Monkees got together for one more episode of their show and they made it seem as if the show had never ended! This was like the 500th episode or something like that !I loved that idea! I'm not a Monkees fan but I have to admit this is a clever and funny special. The guys are all in good form and the tunes from the Just Us album featured in this sound like good stuff to me. I can't believe some critics on here are picking on the Monkees for being childish at times! LOL! It's the MONKEES people! Sure there are plenty of enjoyable moments of goofy stuff in this TV special and that's the charm of it. It's often as silly as the Monkees TV show was back in the old days and as always it's clear that the boys know just how silly it all is. I also notice that a lot of folks were unhappy with the Monkees getting together for one more half hour episode and pretending that the show had been running all those years. I'm sorry folks but that was a very entertaining idea. This special may be just another half hour episode to some but to me this is a winner. Even a non-fan like myself will have to admit that coming back for one more trippy episode was clever. This special taught me that the Monkees still can entertain and are always worth a look and a listen.

That was then this is now...,

To coin a frase,"That was then and this is now" Which I loved. Watching the old Monkees show reruns is great fun. But they are not 20 something anymore and neather am I. I throughly enjoyed watching the 50 something guys being who they are now. Still lively, funny, handsome, talanted, and after these years can pull off being The Monkees. The look behind the scenes was great, watching Mike,Peter,Davy and Mickey working together to create their Monkee magic. The music video scenes were up to date, energetic, and truly enjoyable. The only thing I can find falt in is more is always better. It is my opinion that anything worth doing is worth doing for at least an hour....

I have to admit it was a bit shocking seeing all of the guys together. Don't get me wrong it was a good shock. However, the video is only 30 minutes long. Not nearly long enough for us to get to visit each monkee. I am a little disappointed with the video, although the songs they were singing weren't so bad, it's just I wish it could have been longer.

Justus doesn't do justice to a good album,
By juan tovar (Milwaukee, WI United States) - See all my reviews

To think the best part of this video was the clips from the wonderful series and the classic movie, Head, one of the best rock films of all time. This video makes "Saved by the Bell" look like Shakespeare...There are many problems with this release, first the wrong songs were chosen for the publicity videos. The corniest being "Admiral Mike", the album has much better songs then this song fart. Peter's "I Believe You" would have been a better psychedelic video montage. Second, the "Magic Glasses" gag stretched by Nesmith and Dolenz seems childish, point being, Dolenz putting x ray glasses while staring at women's faces in one clip as oppposed to their bodies??? This video also proves the inability of Davy Jones to make himself look like a genuine performer, his appearances seem to mechanical and too egotisical. Also, this video states the inevitable, Micky and Davy are the actors and Peter and Mike are the musicians. Corny can be used to describe the behavoir of Mr. Dolenz and Mr. Jones and regret to describe Nesmith and Tork. It sad to think that this is their first studio album together since the classic "Head" soundtrack. An unexplannable recover of "Circle Sky" being the example, the live performance of this song in the movie "Head" does the song justice, the live performance on this release erases the importance of that film, for a second...until the end reaches upon us. Thank god! Do not buy this, buy "Head" and both seasons of this groundbreaking serious, unlike Jones and Dolenz, don't take it seriously. On a positive note, the album is pretty good, not as important as "Headquarters" but a hell of a lot better then "Present"...

Old Monkees Never Die,
By James Ballard (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Just Us [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Over the course of too many years to recall one of the things that was always comforting was that some things-like the monkees-would always be a part of "magic youth". Alas those days are gone. The album and the video of Justus are fine for what they are-but they arn't much monkee. In a world of glitzy music videos that are all gloss Justus is just that--all gloss and polish. These songs and videos are too laboured over. A monkee's album or TV show should have something fresh or different. It's too bad...old monkess never die they just move into the 90's and beyond. And that is not always a good thing.
