Editorial Reviews

Product Description

From the author of the classic college campus favorite and perennial seller A Peopleís History of the United States comes a short, intense polemic on the political direction of those United States, leading toward what seems to Zinn like perpetual war. Just War is based on a lecture given in Rome, where, as Zinn addressed an Italian audience, a public known for its negative opinions of recent American foreign policy, he could be direct about his own feelings. ìI come from a country which is at war, as it has been almost continuously: and for that I feel shame.î His rousing call to the only ìjust war,î the ìwar against war,î which concludes that ìperhaps it will take a combination of factors to end war: but we must all play a part,î is a must-read for those who know and trust his work, and, for those concerned about current events and looking for strong and morally driven perspectives, it is an excellent introduction to a great thinker.

5.0 out of 5 stars POWERFUL IDEAS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES, October 15, 2006
At only 64 pages, including photos of the event and the introduction by the war surgeon who wrote Green Parrots, this may seem a rather slender volume compared to his earlier book On War which mostly examined WWII and the Vietnam War. Nevertheless its timeliness and passion makes this essential reading for our day.

Supplement with the US Catholic Bishops excellent definition of Just CAuses and Just War (ad bellum and in bello) that was entitled God's Challenge
