Butch Karp solves a murder and art fraud.,

This was a real page-turning crime novel. Assistant District Attorney Butch Karp prosecutes an accused murderer after having surgery on his knee. His wife Marlene solves a case of art fraud. Their child Lucy is saved from danger by detective Harry Bello. Another great novel in the Karp series!

the way that this writer wrote this novel is absolutely a joke to me. since page 1, the tone of the storyline is like somebody is joking about a street assassination. the cops who responded to the murder, just like the author himself, did the same inhumanely jokes on the scene. making jokes, chewing gums, chain smoking, they didn't look like any qualified nypd policemen. none of them read believable and all of them disgusting. the two detectives who got the case just read like a couple of jerks. they approached the suspect, the person of interest, never made me believe that they would be qualified for detectives. the way they asked the questions never rang a bell like well experienced cops. they just changed looks to eye each other. they asked the suspicious on-scene vehicle, but never asked right away to force the suspect to take them to look at at the car...on and on, there are just so many lousy and careless writing to set the pace and the right tempo for a legal thriller. it's so amateurish and so mindless.the only thing that i felt glad was: this is the first book i've tried out on this writer. it only took me 30 pages to decide this is a lousy writer i'd never approach again. when you could read all of michael connelly's books and finished them and craved for more, and then, you couldn't read over 30 pages of this writer's first book when i tried, it only proved how bad this writer is. no star or minus 10 stars is what this writer deserved.

...and a host of other problems all come together to give the reader a good feel for the complicated and haphazard behind-the-scenes activities that sometimes combine to make our legal system work in a less-than-perfect manner. Not to worry, though - our (usually) fearless protagonists come together to solve a complicated case and we also get a taste of less-than-satisfying, but highly pragmatic philosophy from the lawyers involved (how can they defend the obviously guilty, is this jail time actually going to solve anything for this defendant, etc.)
The characters and the cases are interesting. Well-written.
