This is the video to Madonna's "Justify My Love," directed in black-and-white by Jean Baptiste Mondinio. Here's a clip that's apparently so explicit, MTV refused to play it, sparking a huge censorship debate. The controversy must have helped, for the single blasted to No. 1 on the singles charts. Skeptics may call this video a cheap shot at attention, but I think it's pretty engaging and interesting to watch. Here, we find the onetime Material Girl checking in at a hotel, where all kinds of sex antics happen. Hardly anyone is fully clothed and they all looking naughty, if ya know what I mean. The scene that raised the most eyebrows is the fem-to-fem action that takes place, as Madonna gets it on with another woman while a guy (then-boyfriend Tony Ward) looks on. Frankly, this video is as close to porn as Madonna has gotten (not counting her 1992 "Sex" book). While some may find this video offensive, one thing is certain: it's impossible to take your eyes off it. If you don't know anything about it, you must have been living on some remote island off the coast of Fiji. "Justify My Love" was one of the many high (some would say "low") points of Madonna's career, and it's worth a look.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Hot Video, March 27, 1999
By A Customer
Directed by Jean Baptiste-Mondino, filmed on location at the Royal Monceau Hotel in Paris, France. This black-&-white video depicts Madonna as a sexual adventurer, exploring fantasies with men, women, crossdressers, lesbians, homosexuals, and practicing bondage and sadomasochism. MTV banned this video due to explicit sexuality. The song was cowrote/coproduced by Madonna & Lenny Kravitz. Running time: app. 5 min. PARENTAL ADVISORY: THIS VIDEO MAY BE UNSUITABLE FOR VIEWING BY MINORS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Madonna in her Pre-Motherhood Years, August 27, 2000

(REAL NAME)
Before the arrival of both Lourdes and Rocco, Madonna was the everyday bad girl that made jaws dropped and established fashion trends. Although she was a vital part of MTV's music video playlist, not even her fame, her connections, nor her money could get that network to air this racy video.

Directed by Jean Baptiste Mondino, "Justify My Love" features Madonna walking the hallways of a Paris hotel, exploring her sexual fantasies with a slew of characters. Lesbians, gay men, sado-masochists, and many other sexually charged individuals are seen cavorting with Madonna and her then boyfriend. While this video seems tame compared to what we see on television nowadays, Madonna's video was a pioneer in opening MTV to the sexual revolution that was propelled with the advent of music videos.

Madonna, Lenny Kravitz, and Ingrid Cesares share the songwriting credits on this album, and the background beat was sampled from a track found on Public Enemy's "Fear of a Black Planet" album. Be advised that this video is not appropriate for children or people who can't tolerate alternative lifestyles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexually Stimulating!, June 27, 2002

I don't see what the problem is with this video. Yes it is very sexual but not as explicit as it has been made to seem. I don't even see why MTV banned it from airing. This video is not that much different than some of the other nastier garbage that comes out in regular television or cable. This video could of been confined from unsuitable viewers by being aired at certain hours or times of the day when children are mostly asleep. Please! This video is not that bad. Madonna has done worse things than this, and is not even bad. This video is well done, imaginative and creative. Madonna looks very pretty and the hunk Tony Ward who is the guy Madonna is kissing in the video is a real gem to look at. He is so HOT and studly.
Five minutes isn't enough. That is the downside to this video. It should of been longer. Check it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sordid, Artsy, pushing the envelope...Madonna at her best!, March 3, 2004

Guillermo A. Villarmarzo (Gurabo, Puerto Rico USA) - See all my reviews
This video provides the viewer with a hectic view down the gender-bender rabbit hole of the nineties in America. And speaking of holes, Madonna is fantastic in this performance...watching it leaves you smiling the way she smiles during the last seconds of the video while rushing down the hotel halls after her very naughty escapade. Decadent, sordid, experimental and FUN.
A must-have for the Madonna fan (Before the children's books, Pilates and the phoney British persona.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Justify My Love Home Video (1990), January 9, 2004
I was wrong about this video. When I first saw it two or three years ago, I didn't like it first, basically because I thought it looked like it was shot with a little t.v. camera. However, I just watched the video on madonna's website MADONNA.COM. The video is unbelievable, but very racy in sexuality and sexual relations.

The video starts off with Madonna walking down in the hallway of a very posh hotel in Paris. Her then boyfriend, famous photographer, Tony Ward, walks up to her and begins kissing Madonna. From that point on, the video shows a lot of graphic and sexual scenes between Madonna and Tony Ward, gay men, lesbians, and sado-masachists.

Although, very entertaining for us mature adult Madonna fans, this video, however, it is definitely not suitable for children between the ages of newborns-12 years. I recommend that every Madonna fan get this video if you don't have it already. It may be heavily sexual, but it goes perfectly with the concept of the song. This video is one in a million. Believe me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Remixes, February 7, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Justify My Love (Audio CD)
The remixes on this cd are wonderfeul. The 'Beast Within' mix is my favorite. That remix does have the lyrics which she mentions "jews", which she later cut out from other versions of the song. So, I would say this is a collectors cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Video That Started It All........, August 5, 2005
A Kid's Review
In our life, we try to find ways to make our days easier. In Madonna's life, she tries to find ways to shock people so that her career is easier!!! In November 1990, MTV decided to take a pass on Madonna's latest video for "Justify My Love". This decision sparked a national uproar on what could be shown on television. The reason why MTV refused to air the clip was because it featured nudity, gays, lesbians, transexuals, bisexuals, S&M, and........... well..... straight people of course!!!

While MTV was rejected by Madonna for their offer to air the video as a part of a half-hour special devoted to the controversy, ABC's "Nightline" aired the video instead. Uncut, uninhibited, and completely naughty!!! This sparked an even bigger uproar, causing all major channels to give up on Madonna and the video.

She finally knew what she had to do, Madonna released the video herself on a VHS casstette. It sold over 400,000 copies, and will sell even more if you buy it now on Amazon.com!!! This is the completely uncut, uninhibited, and completely naughty version of the video that MTV refused to air. This is the video that set Madonna's career on fire. This is the video that started it all.
