Never underestimate the power of perseverance, social media, good hair, and a winning smile. Small town boy Justin Bieber is a young musician (16 years old at the time of this film's release) who started out goofing around on the drums at home as a young child and posting videos on You Tube as a preteen. With the help of producer Scooter Braun, he has rocketed to the status of pop phenomenon, performing for a sold-out house at the coveted Madison Square Garden in less than two years. Part documentary, part concert video, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never combines archival home videos with live concert footage; interviews with everyone from Justin's young single mother and his grandparents to his vocal coach "Mama Jan" Smith, pop icon and actor Usher, and producer Braun; and way too much footage of squealing, overwrought preteen female fans (the latter will likely cause one's eyes to spontaneously roll back in one's head and trigger a gag reflex unless one happens to be a 10- to 12-year-old girl). Showcased are Bieber's early visits to every radio station imaginable; his life backstage, on the road, and during a rare visit with his friends back home; the determination of those around him to keep his life as normal as possible; and lots of up-close footage of his concerts. Throughout the 10 days preceding his Garden debut, guest artists like Miley Cyrus, Usher, Jaden Smith, and Boyz II Men join Bieber onstage for collaborative performances of songs including "Overboard," "Somebody to Love," "Never Say Never," and "U Smile." Bieber also deals with the stress and pain of a throat infection that causes him to cancel his first show ever and threatens to prevent him from honoring his performance date at the Garden. Finally, the day of the Madison Square Garden performance arrives and viewers are treated to a great sampling of Bieber's powerful performance. The film does a good job of chronicling Bieber's rise to stardom, but let's face it, his career has spanned less than two years as of this film, so there's not really all that much to say in a movie that lasts almost two hours. But even if you're not a rabid Justin Bieber fan, you have to admit the kid has talent and you've got to respect his incredible journey. (Ages 9 - 13) --Tami Horiuchi

4.0 out of 5 stars Good flick. May 19, 2011
Format:Blu-ray
I'm a 29 year old heterosexual married male and I'd like to say that I'm sick of people saying this movie is trash because they hate Justin Bieber. I am not a fan of Justin Bieber's music, but this movie was very interesting and entertaining. I didn't get a 2 hr boring concert that you could watch on VH1. What I got was a very intriguing story of how this dude became so popular. It shows early footage of how he started drumming, and onto where he is now. Take it for what you will, this is not something you'll think about after you're done with the movie, but it's a good movie to pass 2 hours. If you want a decent musical bio-pic, check this one out... it's really not that bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Movie- Length Worked! March 19, 2011
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this movie- the effects were AMAZING and in 3D I felt like I was at a JB concert. However, I think an hour and 45 minutes was a good length. Although I would definitely enjoy 9 hours of Justin footage, the rest of the un-superfans out there would NOT agree. This duration made it enjoyable for those who aren't big fans, and left the huge fans wanting more, hence the Director's Fan Cut. Either way, I was impressed by Never Say Never and would definitely recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just had to see it... May 29, 2011
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Hi. I too am an adult of 40 yrs. with no children to constantly try to tell me how "great" JB is! I'm a big film buff and especially like to see how one got their rise to the top (documentaries, etc.). It's a very good film in that respect and gave me a little different perspective on this entertainer. I, however, can't figure out all the "hate" he receives from those who never even probably heard more that one song...??? Check it out, if you go into it hating him, you'll probably leave that way too. Myself, I don't prejudge. He has a huge fanbase and that's great for him. I'm just not into kid pop ( LOL ), but I respect what he's doing and hope he continues to do well for himself. Just not my thing thats all.

5.0 out of 5 stars I may have a little Bieber Fever May 28, 2011
Format:Blu-ray
I see Justin Bieber fans on Twitter, and they're hardcore and loyal. I get it. I understand what it's like to be a teenage girl smitten with a male singer. I was diehard over Immature a little over a decade ago. It's fun to have a crush on someone who has the looks, charm, talent and a positive story. But being honest, I hadn't paid much attention to him. I knew he was doing songs with some folks that I would've never thought would work together (i.e., Ludacris, Chris Brown, Usher [before I knew his relationship with Usher]). I wasn't a fan or a non-fan. He was just a kid with hair over his eyes. I saw him on "The Conan O'Brien" show and Chelsea Handler (who I very rarely watch)'s talk show, and he was entertaining on both. I was amused and then intrigued. The Peeps falling on his head was what got me. But what really made me say, "Okay, let me find out who this boy is" was watching Street Kingdom openly embracing dancing to a Justin Bieber song on "America's Best Dance Crew." If this many grown-ups wanted to collaborate with him, clearly there's something about him that's magnetic. On top of that, Street Kingdom's performance to that song was the best one they'd done on the show (IMO, and I am a fan of their dancing). So I finally gave in and rented this movie. Crazy part is I loved it! I watched it twice and will probably buy it because I don't want to return it.

Favorite scenes to rewind: I "awe'd" so many times while watching him tell the camera that he was going outside to shovel snow. Just the way he said it with that big grin on his face was adorable. I liked how he approached that (very surprised but cool under those circumstances) violinist and encouraged her dreams, too.

Other great parts: Watching him SNAP on those drums made me go, "Okay.

1.0 out of 5 stars Never Say Never A Waste of Time and Money March 22, 2013
Format:Amazon Instant Video
When I watched this movie I thought this kid Justin Bieber has basically no talent, he probably doesn't even write his own songs, real talent comes from musicians who not only write and perform there own music, but there music appeals to all audiences with no age limit. Justin Bieber is just another Teenie bopper, that in 10 years at the least will disappear into the crowd, never heard from again, his music will never withstand the test of time, I would not even purchase this movie or any of his music, I can figure why everybody raves on Justin Bieber's music and this movie about him, when really Jackie Evancho who is younger than Bieber yet has a hell of a lot more talent in music, I would buy Jackie Evancho's music Over Justin Bieber's music any day. I am not a fan of Justin Bieber I like musicians who write music that all audiences like, Musicians Like Michael Jackson, and Sir Elton John, who are way better than Justin Bieber, Elton John Video performances outshine Justin Bieber, by a huge margin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Movie, Talented Kid October 20, 2012
Format:Amazon Instant Video
I don't know if I've ever heard an entire Justin Bieber song on the radio, just not my style of music, but I was curious about this movie. It is a very well written and edited documentary/performance showcase of Justin and his music career. As far as the movie goes, it was interesting the entire way through and the performances were entertaining.

I'm really not sure why anyone would call Justin Bieber talentless. To me he seems like a kid that was born with a gift of music and performing, and ALSO got a lucky break, but earned it, and has enjoyed success from it. Justin is not unlike any other artist that has enjoyed the magical mix of talent, hard work, perseverance, and luck to become successful, regardless of musical genre.

I'm definitely not a Bieber lover, I'm a little too old and male and into alternative rock, but I AM a Bieber liker and supporter of his work, and definitely cannot think why I would blindly be a Bieber hater just because he plays different music than I prefer and he has a little kid voice. Hint: he IS a kid!

So now pretty boy is 007?
It's not about 007. The fact they have similar titles is just what happened, not something they did on purpose.
