Growing up in British Columbia, Justin Morneau was sure he was destined to be a hockey player, even attending the training camp of the Portland Winter Hawks as a goalie. But Morneau turned out to be even better at hitting a baseball than stopping a puck, and the baseball diamond proved to be his ultimate destiny. This book covers his meteoric rise through baseball’s ranks, from his days as a high school student at B.C.’s New Westminster Secondary School through the minor leagues with the North Delta Blue Jays and on to Major League Baseball. Morneau made his MLB debut as a member of the Minnesota Twins in 2003, wearing number 33 in honor of his hero, NHL goalie Patrick Roy. Remarkably, just three and a half years later, Morneau was named the American League’s MVP, the first Canadian to receive the honor.
