Product Description

The Justrite AccuFlow type II galvanized steel safety can has a 9" long metal hose with a squeeze-trigger spout, a 3.5" stainless steel flame arrester, and an automatically venting leak-tight lid for storing and transporting gasoline, oil, kerosene, diesel, and other compatible flammable liquids. The 24-gauge galvanized steel can resists rust and corrosion. The flexible metal hose with squeeze-trigger spout helps provide controlled pouring. The stainless steel flame arrester is chemical and corrosion resistant, and helps to prevent the can’s contents from igniting. The gasketed lid is leak-tight, self-closing, and vents automatically, helping to reduce air blockages that can interrupt the flow of liquids as well as pressure build-up inside the can. Four can colors allow quick designation of contents: red for gasoline and other flammable liquids, green for fuel and oil, yellow for diesel fuel, and blue for kerosene. The warning label on the can has an area to add information. The fill port has an ergonomic handle that allows the port to be opened quickly. The can comes with an extra cap. This Justrite AccuFlow type II galvanized steel safety can meets standards set by FM Global (FM); Underwriters Laboratories (UL); Technical Inspection Association (TÜV), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA); Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC); and is designed in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) code 30. When used according to manufacturer’s recommendations, this product is covered by a 10-year warranty against defects in workmanship or materials.

Justrite manufactures safety equipment to store, transfer, use, and dispose of hazardous materials. The company, founded in 1906, is headquartered in Des Plaines, IL.

I got this and an Eagle brand safety gas can Eagle U2-51-S Type II Gas Safety Can 5-Gallon Metal Red With Flex Spout to replace an aging Blitz Jerry canBlitz USA #31710 5 CARB compliant metal Jerry Can. (Please note that the Blitz can link is meant only for reference - my Blitz can is nearly 3 decades old, without the updated spout) I use these for back-up gas for the truck on desert trips, for gas-powered tools at home, and for emergency back up at home because both my wife and I can't seem to gas up our vehicles unless there's about a quart of gas left in the tank. These safety cans are much safer than the old style Jerry cans due to the ability to vent gases when they heat up as well as the addition of spark arrestors.

Based on my experience with this gas can:

Pros:

* No leaks, no smells - Unlike my old Jerry can, this one has very positive and effective seals on both the inlet and outlet points. I have never detected any vapors leaking despite much sloshing around.

* Effective operation - I like the handle set up on this one a bit better than the Eagle can, referenced above. I find it slightly easier to pull the lever that opens the outlet for pouring. The outlet spout that comes with this can is 5/8", which makes it easy to insert the nozzle in the gas inlet of your car, or small gas tanks of gas-powered equipment.

* Strong construction - The sides, top, and bottom of this gas can are very thick and do not flex. It has proven very dent-resistant over time.

Just got this gas can to use on a boat. The can is just a normal container, but I purchased it because of the spout being flexible and need to put fuel into a small fuel port. I just fiqured that if I spend alot of money for something I could get in plastic at Home Depot for a couple of bucks, it would be well-made.

When I used the can for the first time I noticed that as the fuel was going through the spout that the gas was coming through the walls of the flexible spout and dripping on the deck. This simple spout has made this good gas can useless to me.

I also called Justrite and they told me that this can happen when using the spout. Now that makes a lot of sense, highly flammable fuel dripping throught the walls of the spout. Maybe they should state that as one of selling points for this.

Going to Home Depot to buy a cheap gas can and a funnel.

I bought this "UL" approved gas can because it looked sturdy and safe and I was tired of inferior plastic cans that leak and break. This can sits in my garage on a shelf and I use it about once a month rotating it's use with other cans for fueling my lawn equipment. I went to use the can today and the spout was at a "funny" angle. I grabbed the spout and it fell out of the mounting at the gas can end inside the metal collar. I pushed it back in to use it. I then noticed it unravelling to the point it looked like a mini slinkie. Well obviously I can't pour with the can right now. I cut the spring off of the mount and I think I can get some flexible plastic fuel line and clamp it on to the exposed neck to make it funtional again (I hope). So much for the thought of having a metal can that will "last forever". What a joke. Who was the blind UL tester for this product? He should have let his seeing eye dog inspect it. Junk.

I purchased this gas can after I had purchased the Eagle 5 gallon can. I thought that the Justrite looked nice and wanted to try a different type. I think the quality of construction is similar but the design of the Eagle can is superior. The eagle can automatically cracks the fill port when you pour to vent the can and smooth the fuel delivery. On the Justrite can, there is no vent when pouring. The result is an inconsistent pour with poor control and lots of splashing. In addition, it pours much more slowly than the Eagle can. I replaced the 5/8 inch hose with a one inch hoping it would cure the poor pour. No such luck, same issues, only now the new hose leaked along the flexible seams. I wrote Justrite and a replacement is on the way. Even if it doesn't leak, the Justrite still does not perform as well as the Eagle. I will probably buy another Eagle. Same money, better design.

A product that actually does its job perfectly. No problems on this one. The filler door is easy to open and fill at gas station while still having enough tension to be perfectly sealed when closed. The overall quality and finish on this can is perfect. I saw some Eagle Cans and these are way better. The Eagle ones had poor paint application and some people complained about spillage from rear filler door. There are no problems like that on the Justrite Cans. The one problem I see is the price, but that's my problem not the cans....

I am very happy with the quality of this product. The weight when full combined with the 5/8" nozzle made it a little hard for me to fill some of our equipment so I also bought the 1" (I understand the 5/8" is required for cars and some equipment, but I was using it to fill things like lawn misers with big openings). Thefill transfers fuel much faster, so if that would work for your use I recommend it over this 5/8" one.

My husband filled both cans at a gas station a half hour away and I couldn't even tell that they had been in the car. We had been using the plastic containers, which made the car stink for days. I also hated to have to unscrew the nozzle, turn it around (getting gas on my hands) and try to get the nozzle in the lawnmower tank without spilling anything. This requires you squeeze a handle before the gas is released, the same idea as a gas pump, so nothing spills. It also feels much safer than the plastic tanks.

The only downside of these versus the plastic is the weight. They do weigh considerably more. Once I add 5 gallons of gas they get heavy.

I am very happy with these cans. My neighborhood is geeky enough that I have had some neighbors stop by to see our new cans. Every guy has said that their wife wants the same as they also are a little freaked by the safety issues of the plastic cans.

Highly recommended.
