A great basic guide to using the Jutte, if you can get a copy of this book., January 7, 2010
This review is from: Jutte: Japanese Power of Ten Hands Weapon (Paperback)
I bought a used copy many years ago because I was teaching the Jutte to my Jujitsu students at the time. There are very few authentic books or manuals out on the use of the Jutte. In early Japan it was used as a symbol of authority and you can often see this weapon in Japanese Samurai movies.
This book covers the basic blocks, thrusts, strikes, takedowns and self-defense techniques of using the Jutte. This tool is also taught in many Japanese Jujitsu styles. In conclusion, this book is out of print and it will be difficult to obtain a copy, but if you are really into the Jutte, you may want to seek out a copy from some book seller.
Rating: 5 Stars Joseph J. Truncale (Author: PR-24 Police Baton Advanced Techniques).

Great book if you can find it, May 29, 2007
This review is from: Jutte: Japanese Power of Ten Hands Weapon (Paperback)
I bought my copy of this book a couple of years ago and, given the run up in price, probably should have bought several more copies as an investment! On a more serious note, if you are interested in the jutte this is a must have book. The photos illustrating techniques are well done and create the proper mental picture for the practitioner to grasp the technique being displayed. The book contains a great variety of techniques while also giving the why behind them and some history of the weapon. Once one comes to understand the jutte's proper use, it becomes plainly obvious that this weapon is a very nasty one. If you happen to be a practictioner of jujitsu, you will cringe when imagining the incorporation of this hooked metal instrument into the variety of throws available in your repertoire. The striking and tearing ability are quite impressive, as are the weapon's defensive abilities against strikes and a sword. Granted, one does not expect to be attacked by a sword these days and it is probably illegal to stroll around the streets with a jutte in one's hand, but it is neat to understand the genesis of this instrument's use in Japan.
I would also recommend seeing a demonstration of the weapon live if you ever have a chance. It is one thing to read about the jutte and view the techniques in this book. Seeing the weapon in action live affords one with a deeply ingrained respect for the punishment that it is capable of dealing out.
