For Relaxing Times....Make it Juventude/SlowMotionBN Time.,
By M. Katayama-Lee (Santa Monica, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Juventud: Slow Motion Bossa Nova (Audio CD)
Plain and simply this is a wonderful CD for relaxing times. I would have to agree with all the other reviewers who rated this CD highly. Fonseca & Bastos have a sound very reminiscent of the greats: Jobim, Gilberto, etc. If you live near the ocean then this is THE perfect CD to put on while watching the waves. If you don't live near the ocean, this is still THE perfect CD to put on, because it will make you picture being on a fantasy island without a worry in the world. Although many of the songs on this album, do sound similar to one another, you won't get bored or irritated by it, because each song is so soft and beautiful like silk.

Mainstream samba,
By JG "wordmule" (...onward....thru the fog!) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Juventud: Slow Motion Bossa Nova (Audio CD)
This is pretty mainstream samba/bossa nova if there is such a thing in Brazilian music. Having said that, there are a few secrets hidden beneath the surface. This is the type of CD you want to play when you're just kicking around, or doing the groove thing, or maybe just wanting to get carried off to Ipanema Beach in your living room while you have the candles on and sip some wine or fine beer. If you happen to be by the ocean with some steady, nice waves rolling in on the beach on a summer evening, or in your backyard by the pool, this CD sets the mood. Excellent recording, with lots of stellar guests. The strings are arranged by Morelenbaum(and I'm sure he plays the cello on some tracks), who did Caetano's strings on "Livro", which shows Celso keeps good company. Like "Livro", it's got the horns echoing Miles Davis too. Great mellow CD.

Great Summer Listening,

This CD is super for dragging the speakers outside on a summer evening and grilling/eating outside, while sipping on some chilled beverage and admiring the twinkle lights. I heard of this guy on NPR and he's the real deal. I'm not as impressed with some of the songs, however. He seems to be trying to be a little more radio friendly than some of the old, true Bossa Nova (based on the fact that the name has something to do with "youth").I'd try his newer album "Natural" or Stan Getz/Joao Gilberto/Astrud Gilberto, too. (It's my experience that putting on some Astrud Gilberto - try "Finest Hour" - will surely turn on the romance in your lover.) Give it a try.
