This review is from: al Juyushi: A Vision of the Fatemiyeen (Hardcover)
This book is very well written and explains the concepts of fatemi architecture very well. It is also notable that J saifuddin has done in depth research of other fatemi masjids and he does a good comparison of this masjid with other masjids giving us a full idea of what fatemi architecture is really about. Readers will be impressed by the in depth analysis of every aspect of the masjid and I would reccomend it to all from professionals and experts in the field all the way to those who who just want an interesting and useful read.

An Insightful and Enlightening Read,

This review is from: al Juyushi: A Vision of the Fatemiyeen (Hardcover)
al Juyushi offers both the informed as well as the uninitiated reader an interesting and insightful journey into the philosophy of the Fatimiyeen by looking at its manifestation in the architecture of the masjid. The thesis is coherently presented and well argued yet the language and presentation are not daunting or beyond the comprehension of the lay reader. Also, interesting is the link J Saifuddin makes between the past and the present, leaving the readers with many insights and thoughts to ponder over. Probably the first such contemporary work that provides an in-depth yet holistic look at a particular aspect of Fatemi culture, it offers an admittedly focused view. The writer makes clear his vantage point at the outset and makes no apologies for it, thus expending with the onerous task of proof of objectivity. He offers his perspective and conclusions, which are nonetheless well researched and backed by evidence, and leaves it to the readers to position themselves as they wish. Most admirable is J Saifuddin's skill in adjusting his lens on history from a microscopic view that looks at the minute details on an architectural feature to a telescopic view that spans from the time of Aimmat Fatemiyeen to present day. In addition, he is able to take the reader with him and this is particularly admirable in a work of this nature and scope. |
