5.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth IT!!
Because my son's mp3 stopped working I had to find something for him in the meanwhile. This is a nice cd player and works well. My son is 16 and very happy , plus the headphones are not those little light and frail ones. Deff worth the money!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Jwin Electronics personal CD player, November 8, 2008

I got this because my old CD player cannot cope with electrical interference when it is playing in the cup holder on our treadmill and because the Amazon photo shows easily accessible controls. This player has no shock memory. When moved even slightly it stops playing, but when things settle down it resumes where it left off. However, it is not affected by our treadmill's electrical emissions. Musically, its lower frequency response, especially pipe organ pedal bass, is somewhat less than upmarket players. It is satisfactory for its intended purpose (providing music while I am on the treadmill) and good value for money. Great service from the seller - fast shipping, and it was well packed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Overheats, October 30, 2007

When first using it, it is an effective inexpensive CD player. Don't consider it portable, because it is highly vibration sensitive and doesn't have skip protection- even setting a coffee mug on the desk it sits on can make it skip; setting it on a mouse pad helps. I use it on my desk, plugged into an AC adaptor, so that is not usually much of an issue. What IS an issue, is that the area where the AC adaptor plugs in gets very hot after many hours of use, and the CD player malfunctions- it stops spinning fast enough and stops playing with an error code.

Update: It's now died, the malfunction is permanent, not just when it is hot. Unfortunately, I don't know how to remove a star from my review- but it didn't last long enough to be worth two stars imho.

This player skipped if you looked at it. I could be lying down, perfectly still, listening to it and it would skip. Controls hard to read.

EDITED TO ADD: I used this 5 months, just 3 nights a week before it bit the dust. I used it 99% of the time when I went to bed at night to relax. It was not mis-handled in any way at all. It just didn't last, so I do not recommend this CD player. If you want to read the rest of my review which I wrote shortly after receiving it in February, go right ahead, but I do not recommend this CD player now. And yes, even after all these months, the headphones still smell odd.

***********************************

I hate when I open a clamshell package and I get a whiff of that funky Chinese plastic smell - I think it's due to the chemicals they use to make their plastics, and I only encounter this smell with items from China. It nauseates me.

I would have returned this but the smell dissipated from the CD player itself within 24 hours. The headphones that came with it are another story, they are still sitting out in my garage and I'm hoping they lose that smell eventually. In the meantime, I'm glad I kept my old headphones from my 10 year old Sony Walkman that bit the dust last month.

This CD player does not have an anti-skip feature, but I'm ok with that. I use this when I go to bed at night to listen to relaxation CD's, I keep the CD player on the nightstand next to my bed and all is well. I tried this in my car and just letting it lay on the passenger seat worked well also. It's only when I hold this in my hand and shake it fairly hard that it skips. So this may work ok if you are a walker, but probably not if you intend to jog with it. (But that's what MP3 players are for).

The controls are all easy to figure out without reading the instruction manual (the manual has that funny smell too).

The sound quality is great but since I'm using my Sony headphones, that may have something to do with it. I haven't tried the J-win headphones.

I'm happy with this, it was cheap, it has good battery life, and it plays my homemade CD-R's. I hope it lasts longer than the 90 day warranty that comes with it. And maybe one of these days the smell will leave the headphones, but if not, it's not a big deal to me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for the money, February 11, 2009
Nice unit for the money.
The only problem is you can't go near it when it's playing or it skips(very sensitive). As long as I'm not jumping around while I'm walking along,I can put the unit in my jacket pocket while playing a CD and it works ok.

This item worked for 1 day just a few hours. It was cheap enough but I expected to get more use out of it before it died !

Tried to save a few bucks...big mistake.

Featherweight plastic construction. Laser started untracking after 1 week of use.

Save yourself the headache and just buy the Sony instead!

I bought this to use when I am on a treadmill. It works, but it skips just from the mild vibration of the treadmill. And I certainly can't carry it while I'm walking. Also, it doesn't come with a power cord, so batteries are the only option. It's OK, but I wouldn't buy it again.
