I bought this commode because it looks old-fashioned. I live in an 85 year old house and I wanted to keep some "old charm" with old-fashioned looking fixtures and oil rubbed bronze hardware and faucets. So I picked this toilet. A beautiful addition. But the functionality sucks. About 30% of the time, it continues to run and takes a 2nd flush to get it to stop running (sometimes, a third!!) Another 30% of the time, when you flush it, it "belches out" a plume of water. (Eeewww!) and the last 30% of the time, it actually works like it should. When I call Kohler, even though it's brand new and they should send someone to resolve the problems, they make all kinds of "suggestions" for ME to fix or figure out the problems. I'm utterly disgusted with their so-called customer service and now (almost a year later) am ready to hire a plumber to figure out and resolve the problems. I like the style, but I can guarantee you that I will never, ever buy another Kohler product!!

A year ago, I tried to repair our old toilet so it could keep the original style of our old home. Unfortunately, it wasn't possible. They just don't make 1" brass valves anymore. So, I went to Keidel in Cincinnati and was pleased to see one that fit the older style but with a new efficient internal design. I haven't had the flushing problems others may have had. In fact, it's almost amazing to see a good load [pun intended] flush so fast and completely. I'm in the market to replaced another old toilet and will buy another Kohler.

GREAT! We have had our Devonshire toilet for 6 YEARS. Zero problems. Looks and works great. I was searching for the best price for two more that we need while remodeling our 30 year old home and noticed some low reviews. We are very pleased with the Devonshire and will be buying two more.

Don't buy it. This piece of junk is far more trouble than it's worth. I bought one 8 years ago, and little did I know that I would almost immediately need to also buy a closet auger. The small, tight curves in the trapway and the exceedingly low volume of water (1.6 gallons per flush) result in the toilet constantly being plugged from even the smallest volume of waste or toilet paper. My Devonsire plugs up at least twice a week from normal use. The volume of water is just over half the 3.0 gallons per flush of the 67-year old toilet it replaced. The old 3 gallon toilet never plugged up a single time since I bought my house. The porcelain basin inside my Devonshire toilet is so badly and permanantly scratched from repeatedly having to use a closet auger to unblock it (and trying to get the standard sized auger head through the ridiculously tight and narrow trapway is a chore in itself), that I'm sure I would have to replace it if I were ever to try to sell my house.

The cheap plastic float mechanism and the oddly angled flapper are yet another poor design. I just replaced the float mechanism and the flapper because the flapper would no longer seal completely when the tank refilled, mand the float mechanism will no longer properly shut off when the tank is full. I have repeatedly tried adjusting it, but it has simply worn out. I have a second Kohler (also a 1.6 GPF installed a year after my first one, that also plugs up constantly, so I can confirm its due to the poor design and not the installation). The float on the second one has also worn out. The old rubber bulb float mechanism on the old toilets worked flawlessly.

In short, I hate the Kohler toilets and accessories. The 1.
