I have owned this book for awhile now and have re-read parts of it more than once. I loved Hannibals story and can understand how close an officer can become to this kind of dog. I can also understand what the officer went through getting acceptance as the wife of a 20 yr veteren! An informative and well written book

I thought the book was great. I thought the stories about the San Diego Police K-9 Unit were the best. That dog Flic is a riot. They really sound like they are on the cutting edge. These dogs are so brave, I think people should read this book to get a feel for what they face.

After spending Eight yaers in the Military Police Corp of the US Army, I found this book a delight to read. It really lets you get a feeling of what the handlers feel for their partners and the contributions they make to the day-to-day operation. The First section made me cry cause I really got to love Hannibal and at the end of the section, I really felt that I had been a part of the adventures and I had a respect for the splendor of what that dog did. So if you like animals and want to get a feeling of what K-9's and their handlers go through together, read this book

Altho I just started this book, it is amazing to realize what these wonderful k9s can be trained to do; not only protect, but to search for missing persons and even find the specific human remains.
Altho I am partial to German Shepherds and Mals, some of these stories showed how the blood hounds are an integral part of the search procedures.
I only wish that the law would be passed to allow a human officer to protect his k9 partner by shooting/killing the sob before the dog could be wounded or killed in an attack. Police k9 officers should be allotted the same Life Protection as their human partners.
All in all, exceptional stories with background of police procedures (i.e. in setting up perimeters, searching w/2 other officers besides the handler, etc.).

It is ok for what it is . If you want true stories of k-9 polcie this is the book for you. I recomend a movie called k-9 cop witch is the tranning of these amazing dogs .
