This review is from: K-II EMF Meter for Ghost Hunting (Tools & Home Improvement)
While trying to choose a proper EMF meter for my intended purpose, I came across the K2 in use on the latest "Paranormal/Ghost Hunting" (and increasingly more scientific) T.V. shows. It was clear to me that the advantage of having bright LED lights indicate an EMF spike while constantly monitoring in a dark environment would make the job much easier. My K2 arrived very quickly and I immediately unboxed the unit and tested the sensitivity around walls and home appliances (as suggested in the included literature) to get a "feel" for real world use. I was absolutely stunned at how quick and responsive my K2 is and feel that it is indeed the best choice I could have made. Let's just say that I plan to stand at least 3 feet away from my microwave oven when it is in use AND have already moved my clock radio away from my head when I sleep! The good news is that the unit will indicate an EMF spike almost instantly as I proved by powering up the microwave oven and and watching the K2 while pushing the power button on our cordless phone.

I am simply elated with the quality and functionality of the K2! I CAN'T WAIT to use this in the field. I consider the graphic display of an EMF spike via the K2's unmistakably bright LED's along with the simultaneous capture of an EVP or visual anomaly as a much stronger support of evidence.

In final, this product has exceeded my expectations in every way. This latest version of the K2 has an improved switch that keeps it powered on until you physically turn it off. This is a huge improvement as the original unit required the user to hold the power button down while monitoring, hence constant monitoring in a allegedly haunted or active location was challenging. Additionally, the cost vs. benefit of this device is more than reasonable. It is thankfully made in the USA and solidly built. In final I want to rave about ghost_augustine, the seller I chose as they shipped the unit to me at light speed and the unit arrived with a well-written custom instruction sheet AND even included a brand new battery to get started right out of the box!

Portland Ghosts (Portland, OR United States) - See all my reviews

I run a paranormal investigation group in Portland, OR and received the K-II meter yesterday. Although we have not tried it in the field yet, I ran tests in my house to see if I could get any false readings. I tested multiple devices that were not on and received no readings at all. It wasn't until I tested an external hard drive, USB hub and an MP3 player that was charging that I received any readings. The external hard drive read in the 1.5 - 2.5 mG range (yellow). The MP3 player showed a 1.5 mG reading (green) and the USB hub also received a 1.5 hit. I was unable to achieve any false readings with the electronic equipment in my house nor any readings at all in locations with no visible electronic equipment.

As far as I can tell so far, it works exactly as advertised and feel confident that any readings I receive in the field will be accurate. The item is extremely light weight and runs off a 9 volt battery which was included. It powered on and worked right out of the box. It doesn't come with any instructions but does have a pamphlet explaining what EMF is.

If you plan on using the K-II for paranormal investigations, I highly recommend testing it around your house first so you are confident the readings are true and accurate. So far I highly recommend this item despite it's somewhat inflated price which is to be expected since this device, although designed for home readings, is so widely used on shows like Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters.

The other great thing about this model is the on/off switch. Since you don't have to hold the switch down in order for it to work, you can set it down, back away, and ask questions while ensuring that there are no external sources such as a video camcorder, cell phone or radio near the item which could cause false readings.

If you are a paranormal investigator, feel free to check out our website where we will post a review of this item in the future after using it in the field. We can be found at [...]

The only reason I have not given it a 5-star rating is because we have not used it yet on an actual investigation. If it performs as it does during home testing or we get actual responses during a Q&A session, I would give it a 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars The K-2 Meter Should Be Standard Equipment, March 22, 2010
This review is from: K-II EMF Meter for Ghost Hunting (Tools & Home Improvement)
Unlike other paranormal equipment, the K-2 is a meter with common everyday uses. Electricians use them to test electromagnetic fields. It's used in the normal AND paranormal world.
My team has used the K-2 Meter with very much success. The beautiful colored lights tell how strong an EMF field is in any certain spot. In theory, emf raditaion is related to the presence of spirits. I have used it to actually trace out a human form on two occasions! You can use it for EMF sweeps as well as contact sessions. This is where you turn the K-2 on and lay the device down. You then ask questions and wait a few seconds for a response to each. In theory, whenever a spirit comes closer to the device, more lights will light up. You can use this for "yes" and "no" answers. We have found if you snap a picture where the K-2 spikes, you will get some form of energy in the pic. In my opinion, all paranormal groups should have at least one K-2 as standard equipment. Not only are they very helpful but are just plain fun to use!

5.0 out of 5 stars My First EMF Meter, December 4, 2010

It's the first EMF Meter I've ever owned and it works great for what I use it for Ghost Hunting. When I recieved it I tried it around the house and could not believe the EMF's coming from my Microwave. Nedless to say I am not going to stand as close to to the microwave while operating it as I use to. It seems to work good in the cold weather and and the lights are easy to see in the dark.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lives Up To The "Ghost Hunters" Hype..., October 8, 2010

This review is from: K-II EMF Meter for Ghost Hunting (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'm a part time paranormal investigator, who has enjoyed ghost hunting as a hobby for a long time. When I first started out, I had only my five natural senses and a cheap camera to pick up on paranormal activity. LOL. Then I started watching that "Ghost Hunters" TV show and had to have one of these and try it myself. I have so far done ONE ghost hunt with it to date and it worked just like it does on the TV show...there weren't any power lines or anything to make the thing go bonkers at all...I can't definitively say it was a ghost that made it do it, I can say it was not a power line, hidden power source, phone, etc. that made it work.

I only wish it had come with a manual regarding paranormal use...but it's original intended purpose was to pick up electromagnetic field fluctuations in the home and by electricians...it also did double duty for me as an electronic stud finder...I had just moved and did not want to drive a nail into a power line in the wall...and it helped me to avoid them...and to figure out what was making a "non working" ceiling fan suddenly go...

I have to say the K2 is one of my favorite toys!

5.0 out of 5 stars Been using the K-II for years. They're great!, July 9, 2011

We been using K-II meters on our ghost tours for years. After an inital 6 month testing period using 4 different types of EMF meters, on private investigations and on my public tours, we selected the K-II as the meter of choice to use on our Investigator tours. This is because they are easy to use at night, the intensity of the readings is displayed using different coloured leds that are easily seen and show up well on film, they don't make annoying beeping noises that are distracting for tours and annoying on EVP's, they are fairly tough, fit well in your pocket, don't need to be connected to an external probe (and so can be used one handed, leaving a hand free for a torch or camera) have a good battery life, are safer to use when walking as you are not trying to use your torch to read the gauge on a meter, and they pick up ghosts.

We use the K-IIs to indicate the presence of ghosts and "communicate" with them by asking yes/no questions. They flash their replies. We've found that ghosts can "block" readings if they choose (they seem to be able to do this with most investigative equipment) and will respond to questions from a whole group or just one person and ignore the others.

Personally I own three K-II's, they've lasted well for many years even though they've been dropped countless times. I love my K-IIs. If travelling lite I'll only take a K-II and a torch with a red filter (the ghosts/spirits we work with dislike white light).

Things to remember: turn of mobile phones to minimise false readings, experiment: like holding the meter or giving it to different people, or if you're a sceptic, try putting the meter down and stepping away from it. Ghosts will get bored if you ask asinine questions or try to keep them chatting all night. Be open minded, patient, cautious, but above all be respectful.

Happy ghost hunting!

This K-II unit has a switch that stays on when depressed--unlike earlier models, you don't need to wedge a dime above the button to keep it on! It also comes with a battery. Even if you don't do any ghost-hunting with it, it's a useful gadget to have around the house. I used it to measure the EMFs coming from around my microwave oven and was amazed at how much energy leaks out of it--no more sitting near it while it's on!! I tried 3 different hardware stores and none of them had any idea what I was talking about when I described a "K-2 EMF unit", so I ordered it from Amazon.com and got in in about 5 days. I live near the USS Hornet, which is reported to be one of the most haunted sites in the U.S., and plan to take my K-2 with me the next time I go on one of their "Haunted History" tours!

I couldnt be more happier with my purchase. I've used it on two ghost tours & received some hits. And Im looking forward to using the K2 meter on future ghost hunts. I like the fact that I dont have to place a coin on the switch to keep it on. I would buy this again!

Ghost hunter enthusiast here and has helped debunk claims as I hoped so far. Also scanned my home and found a fan that emitted rediculous amounts of EMF. Love this product.

One of the best things i have bought. If your into ghost hunting?this k2 meter works great.I was able to have a spirt answer questions with it.you need to make sure your cell phone is turned off,or it can set the k2 lights off.make sure to have any hand radio's,computers,or chargers off first.it too will set the k2 meter off if you are close to the idems. It's a little pricey, but well worth it. Happy ghost Hunting! ;)
