3.0 out of 5 stars A PLEASANT SURPRISE, July 11, 2006
This review is from: K-Tel Presents: Back to the 70's (Audio CD)
I usually avoid K-TEL products because I am nearly always disappointed by the re-recorded or shortened versions they present, but I had to try this one. According to the liner notes, track #5 SMARTY PANTS by First Choice is the only track that is an original recording. Most of the rest sound enough like the originals to fool me, although MORE,MORE,MORE, and GET DANCIN have been shortened. The most pleasant surprise was the last track BAND OF GOLD by Freda Payne. It is obviously not the original version, and I like it much better than the original, which is highly unusual for me. The K-TEL version is grittier, and Freda Payne sings it with a much greater range than on the 70's version. This track alone was worth the price of the CD for me. Most of this CD was surprisingly enjoyable.
